Ted Cruz Plans to Filibuster Any Supreme Court Nominee Made by President Obama

Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz said on “This Week” that he plans to filibuster any Supreme Court nominee made by President Obama to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Cruz described the Supreme Court vacancy left by Scalia as having a "profound impact" on the Republican primary that will change the contours of the presidential race. He argued voters -- not a "lame-duck president" -- should decide who will replace the longtime conservative judge who died Saturday.

"This is a 5-4 court -- the next election needs to be a referendum on the court," Cruz told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. "People need to decide."

President Obama said Saturday he planned to nominate a replacement for the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Cruz said he would "absolutely" filibuster before the Senate could vote on the nominee.

"This should be a decision for the people," Cruz said. "Let the election decide. If the Democrats want to replace this nominee, they need to win the election. But I don’t think the American people want a court that will strip our religious liberties. I don’t think the American people want a court that will mandate unlimited abortions on demand, partial birth abortion with taxpayer funding and no parental notification and I don’t think the American people want a court that will write the Second Amendment out of the Constitution."

So very sorry, and I love sarcasm. must be because of losing Scalia. Mourning the loss of great hero of mine and the possible death of my nation from an overdose of socialist morphine.

"A thing moderately good is not so good as it ought to be. Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." - Thomas Paine 1792

Such a good quote.

That is my Senator and that is my pick for the next President of the United States of America.

Stand up and be counted. Others on here will say you are grandstanding, shopping votes and other vile things. But we know from Texas you are doing what we sent you to DC to do, shut it down and hold the GOPe feet to the fire.

GO CRUZ GO

This is where he belongs and this is his job, instead of running around the country campaigning for a promotion. Why can't these guys be happy where God has placed them, where they can really help the country? The promotion will come naturally if they persevere. It's called "ripening".

Why can't Trump be happy where God has placed him?

What an idiotic statement.

Obama was re-elected four years ago. Things have changed.

And I'm a hypocrite for hoping for a constitutionalist picks the next justice who more than almost any other single person will determine the future direction of the nation? You can stuff that.

Like the Roman senators told Julius Caesar; “We’ve got your back.”

Yep, that’s exactly right.

All they have to do is say no, and that’s it.

But that’s all they had to do to stop the Iran “treaty” too, and they didn’t.

Instead they acted out false opposition which was enable by the Corker Bill, and I expect that they will do the same here.

Oh we tried to stop it but we just couldn’t as always.

Didn’t Harry Reid do away with the cloture rule for nominations?

In the past 5 years, nobody has been able to accomplish muc of anything, or change anyone’s mind on the other side.

The very few times pubbies have been able to pass anything, Obama has vetoed. That has been 7 times in 5 years so far, but you are criticizing Ted Cruz for not being able to do what the entire Republican party has been unable, or unwilling, to do.

Sheesh.

Thanks for speaking the truth pgyanke. Sometimes no deal is better than any deal. No deals with Obama or the democrat’s, it’s time for the republican’s to stand firm (actually its well past time).

SCOTUS wasn’t included.
