Trump Goes Code Pink on George W. Bush
Politico ^ | February 14, 2016 | By Michael Grunwald

It was weird that an angry Code Pink-style protester interrupted last night's Republican presidential debate with a barrage of familiar Democratic talking points about George W. Bush - that he lied the country into a disastrous war in Iraq, failed to prevent the September 11 attacks, and even whiffed on an opportunity to kill Osama bin Laden. It was especially weird that the protestor was one Donald J. Trump, who happens to be the front-runner for the Republican nomination.

Trump didn't just call the Iraq war a mistake. He called it "a big fat mistake." And he didn't call it an inadvertent mistake because of faulty intelligence. "They lied!" he thundered. "They said there were weapons of mass destruction .. and they knew there were none. Trump even groused that the war cost $5 trillion that could have helped rebuild America's crumbling infrastructure, a common Democratic attack line that sounded like a canine talking point at a feline convention, especially in military-heavy South Carolina.

I won’t vote for a NY liberal. And their emotional, lie riddled prattle isn’t appealing either.

A lot of them are but somehow they have managed to drag some of the FReepers that I have admired over the years into the dirt with them. That is what has upset me.

This isn't about anger at the “establishment” because if it was they'd be supporting Cruz. This is a deeper meanness almost maniac like.

Like I said some of these people are people I was with fighting against Code Pink saying the same things Trump is now saying.

I know I should once again leave FR but I keep thinking that something will happen to wake the Powers that Be up about what is going on, but I've pretty much give up hope.

Now, let’s imagine the future. What if he fails to comply, and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made?

Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction.

And some day, some way, I guarantee you, he’ll use the arsenal. And I think every one of you who’s really worked on this for any length of time believes that, too.

I have been avoiding FR and will continue to do so. It's just that sometimes I do read and I see lies being posted and I have to speak up. FR always gets operatives at election time. We've both been here long enough to see this before but I think this time it has reached an almost insane peak.

You take care!

In hindsight we can see that Iraq was a mistake and the reasons for going were wrong.

After 9-11 Bush had only one mandate, get Bin Laden and Al Queda and nothing more. Iraq was a concoction of the Neocons, Bush wanting to finish the job of Gulf War I and revenge for the assassination attempt by Saddam on his Father in Saudi Arabia.

The Intelligence that was a big part of the reasoning for the WMD fiasco was provided by a informant code named Curveball and it was all bogus. German, French and MI 6 determined this guy was blowing smoke but U.S. intelligence bought it hook, line, and sinker because it fit their narrative. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curveball_%28informant%29

There never was in evidence that Iraq financed or sponsored any terrorism. That would have been the Saudi’s who should have been the main target of our wrath.

In real retrospect why did we ever fight the first Gulf War, what were a our reasons for being there? The slogan that Bush I used, something to the effect fighting to protect democracy. What clap trap there wasn’t any democracy in the ME. We should have just let Saddam go and take over Saudi Arabia and drive out the royal family and the extreme Islam they adhere to.

What we have gotten in return from both Bush’s, along with Obama is a total destabilization of the ME and the current refugee crisis.

So I think we were Lied to, we wasted valuable resources and man power on a horrible selfish quest that benefited no one but the Defense Contractors and somehow the Neocons and their lust for war and conquest. We are now in the century’s version of the 100 Years War with no end in sight.

So far from being wrong Trump is correct on many levels and kudos to hom for having the guts to call it what it is.

When did President Bush not “own” it. He owned it every day of his life afterwords and probably will until he dies. That’s because unlike Trump, who would blame everyone but himself, he is a man.

Pres. Bush was not responsible for what happened on 9/11. That belongs to the people who did the deed. Should he have known it was coming, I have no idea and neither do you.

Count me with you.

The more I see the madder I get at myself for ever thinking Trump would be okay if Cruz didn't get the nomination. I doubt any of his hardcore followers will change their minds, so hillary has got to be smiling. All she has to do is get past sanders.

GWB had his faults, and I held my nose voting for him in 2004. But he was vastly better than Algore or Kerry, and he was and is smarter and more honest than Donald Trump.

Donald Trump has pulled off the mask and attacked GWB as a Code Pinko. He’s praised Planned Parenthood - an organization that exists solely to kill babies. He’s said his partial-birth abortion loving sister would be a great Supreme Court justice.

He is Bernie Sanders promising to manage things better than Bernie knows how, but with the same core values (or lack thereof).

Where were YOU and what were YOU supporting in 2004? Hmmm? Did you vote for Kerry?

“So you’re happy when our children are used as fodder?”

Those were MY children! And ME! I went too - just as I had been flying over Iraq and getting shot at for YEARS while no one in America noticed! My last combat tour was when I was 49. I went to combat wearing bifocals! Ever try shooting an M4 with bifocals?

And it was better that WE go and do the fighting than allow the enemy to come here and have our elementary schools as battlefields!

So, where were you and what did YOU do when others fought to keep you safe, Mr 2015?

Are you even old enough to remember 9/11?

I flew to Turkey right after Saddam invaded Kuwait. Do you remember that? Were you even alive then? I was in Turkey days after he invaded. I spent much of my adult life in the Gulf. I lost count of how many times I was shot at, badly. What the hell did YOU do?

So... Kuwait was a democracy? Nope. Dictatorship. Thanks for keeping it safe and sound for the Emir.

You just don’t get it. I know we have to fight. But why are we fighting the wrong people? On 9/11 we were attacked by proxy from SAUDI ARABIA. They are the ones that have fueled Jihad all over the world by financing madrassas(s) all over the world. Saddam was correct to wonder why we were targeting him, and why we chose to defend Kuwaiti Emirs.

You just don't get it.

No. you don't get it. Everything that you've said has been wrong.

The Truth About Saddam and Terrorism

Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had extensive ties to terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda, according to an official report published by the Pentagon’s Institute for Defense Analyses and released through the Joint Forces Command.

That report, Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents, came up with some startling revelations in its 59 pages:

Saddam supported at least two al-Qaeda groups: Pentagon Update: What it means

You obviously know nothing about the Gulf War. It was a US led NATO operation.

Persian Gulf War

Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion and occupation of neighboring Kuwait in early August 1990. Alarmed by these actions, fellow Arab powers such as Saudi Arabia and Egypt called on the United States and other Western nations to intervene. Hussein defied United Nations Security Council demands to withdraw from Kuwait by mid-January 1991, and the Persian Gulf War began with a massive U.S.-led air offensive known as Operation Desert Storm.

It's just that the United States then elected Barack Obama, who proceeded deliberatrely to lose the war and make the deaths and maiming of thousands upons thousands of brave troops completely in vain.

” I know we have to fight. But why are we fighting the wrong people?”

We weren’t.

Invading Saudi Arabia was out of the question. If you do not know that, you are a raving madman. But we did kill uncounted thousands of Saudis in Iraq and Afghanistan. And OTHER extremists. Overseas, not in the US.

At a time when everyone was expecting more terrorist attacks on US soil, we held them by the nose and kicked their butts - OVERSEAS! And as a result, we were safe in the USA. It took Obama to screw it up!

Saddam’s military was shooting at me for much of the 1990s. I gather you do not understand that. Do you remember 9/11? Are you old enough? Have you ever been to the Middle East?

Trump put the final nail in the coffin last night with me when he went after GWB and the war in Iraq. He is nothing but Code Pink trash.

Add me as one more to your group. I was upset, to say the least, with his behavior on this last night. He became completely unhinged and then went further with his blaming W for not keeping us safe from 9/11.

During the war and when Code Pink was at its height, I along with hundreds of other FR members went to Crawford Texas to counter-protest at the Bush Ranch. To have many on this forum turn and blame W for the current woes of the Iraq area of the middle-East is distressing to say the least. Maybe Bush was wrong about WMD's (I don't believe he was) but to say he deliberately lied to get us into the war puts Trump squarely in the Code Pink camp as far as I'm concerned. It increases my doubt in believing anything he is saying and worries me about his suitability for the office he is seeking.
