During the Republican debate on Saturday night, Donald Trump floated two names as potential nominees to the U.S. Supreme Court: Judge Diane S. Sykes and Judge Bill Pryor.
âWe could have a Diane Sykes or a Bill Pryor, we have some fantastic people,â Trump told the audience. Both judges are well-known conservatives serving on the federal level.
Who is Diane S. Sykes?
Sykes is a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. She was nominated by George W. Bush and confirmed in 2004. She went to Northwestern University and attended Marquette University Law School. She was dropped as a name for the U.S. Supreme Court under President George W. Bush. She was part of the 2011 panel that held a Chicago ban on firing ranges unconstitutional. Prior to being appointed on the federal court, Sykes served as Justice on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Who is Bill Pryor?
Pryor is a federal judge in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He was nominated by President George W. Bush in 2003. His nomination was filibustered so in 2004, President Bush installed the former Alabama Attorney General on the court during a congressional recess appointment. Democrats scrutinized Pryor for some of his conservative stands, including on Roe v. Wade. Pryor previously said, according to confirmation hearing testimony, that Roe was âthe worst abomination in constitutional law in history.â After a higher court ruling on a Alabama execution case, he allegedly ridiculed the Supreme Court by saying âThis issue should not be decided by nine octogenarian lawyers who happen to sit on the Supreme Court.â Most recently, Pryor was nominated by President Obama to sit on the United States Sentencing Commission.
Not fair:
you can’t look at Trump’s record, what he says as a politician running for POTUS is all that matters. /sarc
For real, that answer was so coached / rehearsed.
I have nothing against strippers, It’s just the optics would be bad. Or would they?
When do you stop laying on the icing. Trump said his sister was great, fantastic, then even pronominal. That is enough, but Trump went on to say “I THINK SHE WOULD BE ONE OF THE BEST”
If you want to pretend not to understand graciousness, then maybe I should pretend not understanding humor. Perhaps all us Trump folks should go on every Cruz thread commenting that CruZ is going to secure the border with IRS agents, not a wall. Please will you guys just stop with this type of crap dishonesty.
Maybe Trump should promise to put Ted Cruz on the Supreme Court?
Sigh.
People really need to stop taking every off-hand thing that Donald Trump says as if it were some sort of official policy pronouncement.
Donald Trump tower would be the CODE PINK President and appoint extreme LIEberals like his pro-abortion sister.
Nominate a third choice liberal in the next week. Then let the Senate stall, have their confirmation hearing, let the Senate reject that nominee.
During July 4th break, put the 1st choice nominee as a recess appointment and then blaming the Senate for not confirming a qualified candidate.
Roberts? What has that got to do with what I said?
Trump has shown that he lends a receptive ear to the advice of Sen. Jess Sessions. I assume that includes the subject of court appointments. I’m ok if he follows Sessions’ advice.
After seeing Cruz campaign tactics, I don’t want Cruz on the bench.
Cruz supported Roberts.
“John Roberts should be a quick confirm.”

Alot
bah - don’t you know that once a politician or even someone pretending to play one opens his mouth, he’s lying by definition?
And no I do not have time to watch the latest collection of losers argue about who’s the best liar.
If a pubbie wins POTUS he can always pack the court - so what’s the fuss?
Mitch McConnell can FINALLY do something for the party base - NO VOTE ON ANY OBAMA NOMINEE DUEING THE ELECTION YEAR, NO MATTER HOW MAD IT MAKES HARRY REID OR SIMPERING “CONCILIATORS” LIKE LINDSAY GRAHAM!
I can do Wilford Brimley commercials now ...
I watched it. Upholding the law is foremost. Moore is correct that the law originated with God, but it does not do that continuously. Because if it did, we would have preachers legislating from the bench.
Can you see the future? You go to war with the army you have.
Ditto we were mislead about his being a conservative with deceiving lies.
