Can Republicans really block Obama’s Supreme Court nomination for a year? Probably.
Washington Post ^ | February 13, 2016 | Amber Phillips

Come January 2017, Republicans have a chance at controlling the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.

So it stands to reason that Republicans have very little incentive to even consider President Obama's suggestion for who should replace Justice Antonin Scalia, who died Saturday.

There's some historical precedent for them to do just that. A hazy rule dating back decades that congressional experts say is really more of a tradition suggests senators of the opposition party of the White House can oppose some judicial nominations in the months before a presidential election

They had better. Or Conservatives will have a type of nuclear option on the GOP.

US House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on death of Supreme Co

urt Justice Antonin Scalia: ‘Whether or not you agreed with him, Justice Antonin Scalia served our nation with deep patriotism and distinction on the Supreme Court for nearly 30 years. He has been one of the strongest voices in the great American debate around our Constitution. He leaves behind a formidable record of jurisprudence, and a fierce articulation of his understanding of the Constitution.’ - NBC News

Now I’m more worried.

McConnel is being quoted as saying the Senate will not accept any Obama appointment to the court, that the next President will get to pick.

By filibustering, a senator could, with this one act, save the Republic.

They won’t.

And as for obama? Yeah = his response was exactly this:

“This afternoon the President was informed of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia,” he said. “The President and First Lady extend their deepest condolences to Justice Scalia’s family.”

Schultz didn’t say whether or not Obama interrupted his golf game after hearing the news but specified to reporters that the president would have additional reaction later in the day.

There was no movement away from the golf course, according to the White House Press traveling pool, which monitors the president’s movements.”

“Condolences”. That is it. And HE KEEPS PLAYING HIS GOLF GAME.

Do any of us question the significance of this? Especially since that he has stated that he intends to replace Scalia ASAP.

Pure. Evil.

Conservatives like Cruz, Lee and Paul could put up a lot of pressure and stalling tactics. But, they will be up against McCain, McConnell and Hatch, influential long time members with lots of clout (and money).

Can they? Probably. Will they?? Different question and the answer is probably not. They have bowed to Obama over and over again and they don’t fear the rank and file GOP - they are like an abusive husband telling us we have nowhere to go and unless the rank and file get on board with forming a third party (like the GOP was to the Whigs) the status quo will remain.

What is the status of court cases contesting Cruz's eligibility? I am reading that if the Supreme Court is tied, then the lower court decision stands (and no precedent is set). If, for the sake of argument, the Supreme Court were to be 4-4 on the Cruz eligibility issue, then it seems like potentially conflicting lower court decisions would stand. If the Democrats can get one Circuit Court to block Cruz in one part of the country, what happens?

How would he know what Moochelle thinks? He is here in Palm Springs visiting his boyfriend and she is elsewhere.

Valerie and her young charge Hussein replaces NOTHING on SCOTUS without the consent of the Senate.

Period.

Full stop.

End of story.

These gutless wonders had better, for once, get a pair and stop her appointed toady from getting on the bench. We don’t need another Kagan or Sotomayor or Breyer or Ginsburg (or Kennedy!) to take over.

I fear the worst. Republicans shall actually support any nominee by the negro community organizer from Chicago. Look for SCOTUS under its extremely liberal new justice to declare the Second amendment does not apply to individuals and the negro community from Chicago shall as his last act order immediate confiscation based upon the leftist ruling.

Get ready for the worst. Organize and find leaders ready to fight.
