Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US was the President’s Daily Brief prepared by the Central Intelligence Agency and given to U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday, August 6, 2001. The brief warned of terrorism threats from Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda 36 days before the September 11, 2001 attacks.[1]
I verify that the memo of Aug 6th, 2001, made HUGE waves throughout DoD.
Knowing what I know now about the dirty business of the Bushes, I doubt W did enough to protect us. I don’t blame him for 9/11 though.
I remember Condi struggling through some text, trying to escape the fact that we did have some knowledge of a possible hit.
A non-specific threat is not actionable. One of Bush’s biggest problems, IMHO, is that he kept on a lot of Clinton’s people, including in the CIA and other security services. They were lax and very much into protecting Muslims, for some reason, and I doubt that they were any help in judging the immediacy of the threat (which they appeared to know nothing about anyway).
But that was W’s whole problem. He was too nice to the Dems, and they just walked all over him, and probably even betrayed their country just to get back at him. And he never fought back or challenged them.
There you go - just add that to the stack. I’d like to know what GWB was preoccupied with from Jan through Sep 2001 that kept him oblivious or indifferent to both the history and the ongoing stream of OBL / AQ threats. Just what “business” was more important than this nation’s security? All the intel was at his fingertips - including the stuff Clinton was given on OBL.
