WASHINGTON - The unexpected death of Justice Antonin Scalia creates a complicated situation in Washington to determine his replacement on the high court. Republicans are extremely unlikely to confirm anyone that President Barack Obama nominates in the final months of his second term to replace a justice considered a major pillar of modern conservatism - a position that top Republicans, Republican operatives, and presidential candidates already have made clear on Saturday evening.
"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement...

I predict the Sharia loving Muslim that Obama’s buddy Chris Christie appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court in 2011. Christie lambasted conservative opponents as “crazies”. Looks like the “crazies” have had the last laugh.
Prominent lawyer Lionel Hutz is also rumored to be in consideration.

Scalia died full of years, with two dozen plus grandchildren, after a day of hunting. I would love to go the same way.
However, this renders the election moot. Obama will appoint someone far left, and the GOP will go along just to make sure Trump or Cruz don’t have the chance to appoint someone.
Correct. Law schools would never let a Scalia, or a Thomas, through today. They would not be allowed in, or to graduate.
We need to do a long march. Recover the schools first, because we can no longer recover the visible paths to power.
But the appointment only lasts until the new Congress convenes. The Court is not in session again until this fall, won’t issue opinions until the spring. I don’t know if a 5-4 majority can force the court to hear cases and issue rulings between now and then, but if so, then they can be undone by the next court pretty easily. And justices who participate in such shenanigans should be threatened with impeachment in the next Congress. Will make a great issue for the Republican nominee to run on.
