Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.

"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

79 years old. Why would it be shocking?

Well, he’d just traveled, extensively, to Asia and had no health issues, that we know of.

Always comes as a shock to me, when a SCOTUS....or any well known figure....passes suddenly, without any known health issues.

Shocking and sad.

Why do you ask?

Cause of death still unknown.

I’m not a conspiracy theory but you can’t put this past the loathsome left.

But is he in the mold of a Scalia in principles and DC Circuit decisions? If not, he is a no go in my book. Since he clerked for OConnor that influences his principles.

Doesn’t SlowJoe get to break ties?

Only in the Senate.

Who else votes on SCOTUS nominees?

Most conservatives supported Roberts — a member of the Federalist Society, after all. Cruz, as I said, had argued for the nomination of Luttig, who would have been a better choice, but supported the Roberts nomination.

To say that therefore Cruz is responsible for Roberts and for Roberts upholding 0bamacare is a logical stretch of massive proportions. It’s just not the case, and Tramp knows it.

Tramp said last night that Bush was responsible for 9/11 because it happened on his watch and that he lied about WMDs. Do you believe those things, too, just because your guy tells you to?

Tramp knows he’s vulnerable on 0bamacare due to his praise of socialized medicine, so this is his way of trying to deflect that.

And they want to get re-elected. You need the Republican base to do that, so it’s in their interests in this case to stand tough.

Clement C. Haynsworth and G. Harrold Carswell.

So instead we got Blackmun. Terrible appointment.

Wasn’t this the same Fortas seat?

Start calling your Senators NOW — (202) 224-3121.

Also, get on the Senate website, http://www.senate.gov and find your Senator’s offices back home in your state. Call at least one or two of them.

Then write to them and email them.

Let’s keep the pressure on to stop ANY nominee.

0bama might try to get tricky and pick a Senator or former Senator, relying on the collegiality of the Senate to slide the pick through. Then we’ll just have to turn UP the pressure.

Whichever candidate you support, this brings into sharp focus the issue of Supreme Court nominations. This is why we need a conservative, not just a Republican.

Not saying he’d be a force for good — he’s liberal, for sure — just that it would be very hard for the Republicans in the Senate to say he’s not approvable now when they just stamped him approvable two years ago. Which would make nominating him a good tactical choice for Obama. We may be outfoxed on this one, no matter how strong our resolve...

If there is a tie, the VP votes, yes. But if the Republicans win, the Democrats only get to organize the place in a 50-50 Senate for about 17 days (from the 3rd through the 19th, as the new president takes office on the 20th.)

You’re not entitled to your own set of facts. Trump asked, after Jeb bragged that W built an apparatus that kept us safe, “How did he keep us safe when the World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush?”

He said that there’s never been any proof of WMD’s, in Iraq.

Trump’s the least ‘vulnerable on 0Care’....as he’s repeatedly stated he will repeal and that free market, across the state lines options will replace it. Exactly what we conservatives have been asking for, for years.

Look, I get that you’re supporting the establishment/Cheap Labor/amnesty PAC supported lawyer, but, We the People are sick and tired of the same old, same old establishment politicos saying - for ever - that they’ll do one thing, but in the end....following only what they’re ‘told’ by their amnesty/Open Borders special interest group masters.

Finally....Tramp??? Seriously? What, are you four years old?

That tells me, right there, to not even bother with the likes of you, anymore.

They did it three times in the 1860s alone.

That’s 9. (At least three of them Chief Justices.) They’d make a pretty interesting group.

Marylin Mosby is the State's Attorney for Baltimore, who is overseeing the prosecution of the six policemen involved in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray.

and whose husband represents the council district where Freddie Gray lived. (I think he's running for mayor.)
