Many are inexperienced at posting their opinions without feeling the need to alyinski the other candidate.

marginalize, criticize, demonize then criminalize.

Just remember, there are the RINOS on the left of the GOP and RINOS on the right of the GOP and they can’t stand each other and are constantly trying to push each other out from underneath the GOP tent.

This is nowhere near as bad as it was the first time Ron Paul went for the nomination. It seems that an invisible hand has actually toned down the direct personal attacks and insults.

Is it really out of control? Or are we one of the places where the issues get thrashed out, and everyone can have an opinion? One thing I learned early on as a Freeper. If anyone is too sensitive or unimformed to defend themselves, it's not a happy place for them!

Excellent summation of the Republican candidates, but I have to take exception that it is a great “field”. Donald Trump is not and has never been a real conservative, he is nothing but an opportunist and I find it hard to believe he is getting so much support here. In all my years as a Republican conservative I can not recall a time where so many of my conservative friends have had so much dislike of a leading Republican candidate, Sure we weren’t happy with Dole. McCain and Romney but at least they were respected. For the first time in my life I’m hearing many say they could never support Trump. Freepers follow your head not your emotions.

I bailed a while back and stopped in on rare occasions. I left because there seemed to be too many sheeples hanging out here. Now this place seems to look and smell like an open sewer.

My two cents:
1) It’s good that people care, are passionate and are on this site.
2) It’s easy to be an a$$ on-line. Don’t take it seriously.
3) Despite all the rhetoric, many have good points and it’s all edumacational.
4) God bless all the True FReepers. Patriots all. The rest...eff ‘em.

I and many others have noticed FR took a nasty turn when Trump supporters started attacking Cruz and Cruz supporters in very vicious tones.
Many of us were shocked since Cruz is a proven conservative who is the only one willing to fight the GOPe.
Many Trump supporters have begun attacking conservatism itself.

Damn shame.

Because during a campaign season the IQ around here drops to about 30. Not quite imbeciles, but not exactly morons either.

The people who spew their crap are generally old, empty nesters, who have alienated everyone in their real lives...so now the only ones left to screech about are in their cyber lives.

It is like watching two patients in a memory X are ward have an argument.

During the campaign season, the best thing you can do is read the articles, and skip the comments.

It’s the rough and tumble of politics. People are passionate about their candidate.

I stopped going to Lucianne.com because the moderators are a bunch of mamby, pamby woman (this is a salon not a saloon) and metro sexual males.

At FreeRepublic, people are free to express their anger at the establishment. This country is rapidly falling apart, culturally, economically, militarily. People are very angry and they see their candidate as the last hope to save America.

I am a Cruz, Walker, Trump supporter, and understand that they each desperately want to become the next president. So that’s why you see so many negative ads at each other. It’s called politics.

..having been around here about 16 years, this is the worst FR has been IMO

The attacks on people's faith and people of faith are striking.

My belief is that too many are seeking a secular solution to what is a spiritual problem in America. Political answers not rooted in a Judeo-Christian world view will fail IMHO.

I guess we will see if FR survives this -- more importantly, America...

The most vulgar and offensive attacks I’ve seen (not just on FR) have all come from supporters of the candidate who supposedly has the conservative/evangelical voter base market cornered. Then they’ll turn right around and proclaim that their candidate best represents their values and principles in a different post.

What the hell is that all about?

doesn’t seem any worse this time than it has been in the past..... from wiki:

‘During and after the 2008 U.S. Presidential election, according to political commentator Sean Hannity, “[E]veryone I knew basically left because of so much childish, immature personal attacks. The propensity there to eat their own. And a lot of the people — most of the people — I knew that were on it left.”[48]

Bush comes from a conservative background, with administrative experience in what has consistently been a crucial electoral state, with the potential for earning crossover votes from the Latino community.

There is one major part of the problem. Jeb and all the Bushes are for open borders and any trade deal the globalists can dream up, and pandering to Hispanics is a must.

Yet you say Jeb "comes from a conservative background". Does he? So, conservatism means open borders, and any foreigner who can get into the US illegally did it as an "act of love" and should be allowed to stay? And rubber stamp all trade deals.

If Jeb's stances on the critical issues of this campaign are even remotely "true conservative" stances, then count me out.

That's a major part of the problem. The critical issues this time don't fit neatly into conservative and non-conservative boxes. But some keep spewing the "true conservative" line and it's almost irrelevant to those critical issues.

The politicians who call themselves conservatives have been the major backers of open borders, any and all trade deals, and pandering to ethnic groups.

I don’t mind people being passionate. They are entitled to their own opinions. They are NOT, however, entitled to their own facts, and that’s where things get not only ugly but I would suggest possibly even illegal. Those who keep claiming an untruth after it has been shown to be that do everybody a disservice.

Good summary, wrong conclusion. It one of the pro amnesty, pro establishment rino candidates gets elected ,it would be business as usual for the worthless one party dictatorship politicians of DC.

Why waste a vote on someone who is democrat light, and they are all pro amnesty pro democrat.

An overwhelming number of posts are emotion laden or name calling with precious little policy analysis or logic. It’s like the posters are turning FR into DU.

I love the sting of battle. I love the Trumpsters too. I can take it. I can dish it. As long as we don't "opus" we all live to fight another day. I'm glad FREEPERS care. The outcome is Gods.

There's one much funnier but I'm too chicken to post it.

When did Freepers turn so nasty? Dissent from (broadly speaking) “Free Republic orthodoxy” and you’ll see the nasty side of FR instantly. Dissent is little tolerated here, and that is nasty by it’s very nature. Free Republic is anything but an open, vigorous free speech site- the zot ensures that people self-censor. But one may as well complain that gravity is keeping them down. It is what it is.
