Although the decision to inform a workforce of 1,400 employees that they'll soon be losing their jobs to Mexico is an admirable one from the standpoint of candor, it hardly makes for a good recipe for workplace morale.
A cell phone video taken at Carrier Air Conditioner in Indianapolis shows the exact moment that the plant and union workers were told that the company had decided to shift production south of the border.
"The best way to stay competitive and protect the business for longterm is to move production from our facility in Indianapolis to Monterrey, Mexico," says the company representative at the microphone.
Although the change would not take effect until 2017, the reactions from the gathered restless crowd were telling.

“”U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly says the head of the Carrier Corporation could not point to one federal regulation which the company says was responsible for its decision to relocate facilities in Indianapolis and Huntington to Mexico.”
Because there is likely 20,000 pages of regulations? Companies can’t name one thing because there is too many to list.
Agree. Nobody seems to get that. How do we fight a war without an industrial base.
Which means exactly what, since Carrier is based in Indianapolis, Indiana and that's where these jobs are leaving from.............
When after TPP is fully implemented and Business can import all the cheap labor they want Into America, to work at any business they please, at any wage they want to pay them, you will dream of the old days of having a Union to back you up, but by that time, every state will be ‘Right to Work andcompete with foreign cheap labor workers’.
So, why don't you enlighten all as to what being honest involves.
Lol, rather than making silly responses to specific posts, why not be specific about what you disagree with?
Why are you Trump supporters pretending that Trump doesn’t have significant foreign financial interests. He’s gone worldwide and made investment and leverage his name.
If there’s money in it then he’s probably done it. Stop pretending he’s for the American worker. If that was true he would have found ways to invest that money in the US.
“I don’t understand why Carrier didn’t wait until the last minute before they move to announce to their employees that they would all be terminated immediately and would receive 60 days severance pay, which they are required by law to do.”
Maybe they could do it the week before Christmas! And people wonder why banking and business is getting more hated by the day. Just being smart,,,,, until such calloused mentalities give us a Bernie who promises to get revenge.
That was George H. W. Bush NOT George W. Bush.
Trump is the only guy on the GOP stage who is openly opposing the TPP.
Republicans have typically offered a slobbering embrace to NAFTA, GATT, TPP, and all other Globalist trade deals.
In the public’s mind GOP=Conservative.
THAT’S why the Conservative brand has been trashed in the mind of a LOT of voters.
Maybe the company will give Jeb a job at their new plant after he loses the election. He hasn’t ever had a real job, has he? Seriously. I don’t know. Has he?
I wonder if this was a ploy to manipulate the Union into accepting concessions it might not otherwise accept.
It did not say G.W. Bush ....
NAFTA was signed by H.W.Bush and passed by a lame duck Congress while H.W. was still president. You can expect that TPP will also be passed by a lame duck Congress sometime next November.
“Yeah, let the America worker compete with $2 a day Asian or $20 a day Mexican labor.”
Average Mexican wage is 8.50 a day. Minimum wage is 3.40 a day. And it isn’t a path to improvement in Mexico either as the Free traitors will argue. No matter the productivity they achieve, if they ever ask for higher wages, the factories can hop to the next 3rd world country. It’s a race to the bottom, ensuring poverty remains wherever they move to.
I’m talking about senators thinking they know more about international commerce and business than Trump does.. all they do for a living is yap four days a week.. they produce NOTHING
Why would anyone object to an American business locating operations in a foreign country, to conduct business strictly in that foreign country? Are you aware that major American brands have been producing products in foreign countries, to be sold in those foreign countries, for decades?
Do you know what an Opel is? Ever heard of an English Ford? Do you object to Mercedes and BMW producing vehicles in the US. Do you object to US consumer products companies such as Procter & Gamble producing in Europe to sell in Europe? Do you object to McDonald's and KFC and other similar brands having fast food joints in foreign nations?
Your comments make absolutely no sense.
Several previous readers have pointed this out.
You are correct:
The union members who lost their jobs to cheap Mexican labor and lousy Mexican OSHA and EPA laws are in Indianapolis, IN.
If anyone is in the market for a new Carrier air conditioner, buy quickly. I suspect some employees will show what they think of this decision in their product workmanship from this point on.
what did Clinton have to do with NAFTA then?
