Although the decision to inform a workforce of 1,400 employees that they'll soon be losing their jobs to Mexico is an admirable one from the standpoint of candor, it hardly makes for a good recipe for workplace morale.

A cell phone video taken at Carrier Air Conditioner in Indianapolis shows the exact moment that the plant and union workers were told that the company had decided to shift production south of the border.

"The best way to stay competitive and protect the business for longterm is to move production from our facility in Indianapolis to Monterrey, Mexico," says the company representative at the microphone.

Although the change would not take effect until 2017, the reactions from the gathered restless crowd were telling.

Not really

Both are creating jobs outside of America using American money being sent outside of America.

Instead of creating jobs inside America.

but you knew that.

Your kidding, of course. Have you thought this completely through? On second thought, we don’t need to make anything here. We can all work for the government and pay each others salaries. That’s it. We just keep printing money to fund the government and hire everybody. Problem solved.

Does it really matter. He’s creating jobs outside of America using American dollars.

I’d say nice try but it was really a pathetic attempt.

It is past time for revolution. 50 years of sending our jobs overseas while importing the world’s illiterate poor is destroying this country. STOP THIS MADNESS NOW. Trump for President!

I’m sure his team is considering using this, some how some way, since he’s been warning the country about just this thing....for a long time, now.

Trump/Wall 2016

If the business climate here is causing Carrier to up and move, I understand the decision. There are added costs to labor and operations here that make it difficult for companies like these to remain competitive.

That said, this presentation to the employees is horrible. There's very little in the way of empathy, and it's borderline condescending.

Stop burdening companies with regulations that inflate labor costs.

There is no elsewhere anymore. Thirty-five years ago there was an elsewhere. We practically have 100 million working age people not working. The elsewhere has gone elsewhere.

I hope we elect someone that removes the PC crap from running a business, hobbling business with increased labor costs through mandatory benefits, etc.

Reminds me of when Darrin Nelson was drafted by the Vikings. He was asked how he might like cold Minneapolis. His answer? “I don’t know. Do they have discos there? I’ve never been to Ohio.”

>>Worked for Reagan.

How so?

>>Once it becomes more expensive to move the jobs or keep the jobs in Mexico things will turn around.

How does a scheme that makes it more expensive to do business in America and make goods and services more expensive for Americans, improve our economy?

>>Prices will jump temporarily, but you must extract pain on the companies

I’m sorry but that is just more government control, higher cost of doing business in America, less competitiveness, less jobs.

>>Trump’s reduction on taxes for money moved back into the country..

Reducing the cost of capital is a good thing. Increasing the costs - your other proposals - is a bad thing.

You are right.

Trump is the ONLY guy on the GOP stage who seems likely to try and do ANYTHING about this.

“Just a guess but I think product quality would be on a down turn from now on.”

This is exactly right.
From a business standpoint, I don’t understand why Carrier didn’t wait until the last minute before they move to announce to their employees that they would all be terminated immediately and would receive 60 days severance pay, which they are required by law to do. The last thing you want is disgruntled workers building your product.

Jeb could not be happier.

It was truly an "act of love" by Carrier.

If I'm working there, I'm not waiting on 2017...that's 10 1/2 months away.

That is only part of the story. Mexico is shipping all manufactured stuff back in here duty free. We are getting screwed. It is Constitutional to protect American jobs. Somebody needs to stand up.
