President Obama designated three new national monuments in the California desert Thursday, expanding federal protection to 1.8 million acres of landscapes that have retained their natural beauty despite decades of heavy mining, cattle ranching and off-roading.

Kinda like Syria, or Iraq, maybe. Seems an ideal place to plant “refugees”, and DT might be persuaded to build a wall around it.

Why do we need a congress when we’ve got a dictator?

With Obama, I thought the 3 monuments would be named, “Republican Eating Quicksand”,”Dead Conservative Dune”,”Moslem Blasphemer Buzzard Nest”.

The land was purchased by the Government, through proxies who were then reimbursed.

Land grab, pure and simple.

At least King John was more straightforward when he set aside 1/3 of England as “Royal Forest”.

‘Forest’ = from the latin ‘foris’, meaning ‘set aside’.

In Medieval England ‘Forest’ meant ‘set aside for the Crown’. Your modern King John is simply setting aside / stealing more land for the Crown.

The lands will just be off-limits to US citizens. They’ll lease the lands to foreigners for mining and ranching in exchange for contributions to their “foundations”. That’s how the game works.

The basic gambit is the environmental group sues the federal agency which pays the environmental group and stops any for profit activity on that land by court decree.

The owners of the land, impoverished by new restrictions and prohibitions are forced to sell the land because they cannot make ends meet, the environmental group or proxies move in and make 'offers' of a fraction of the productive land's value, the land is purchased by the environmental group (using settlement money). The land may then be sold at a profit or retained or 'donated' to the Government.

It is an incestuous and diabolical relationship designed to eliminate private property.

It also feeds on the donations of well-meaning but often misguided people who think they are doing good for nature/critters/the planet/conservation.

I say designate it as a “safe space” and move all the Whitney BLMs out there.

After 8 years of 0bama, he should just declare the whole country, “The 0bama Super Fund Clean Up Site”. The next president has to clean up the mess he left.

Teddy Roosevelt started this. The federal government had no Constitutional authority to lock away huge tracts of land. Progressive politicians have been destroying liberty long before the Won.

I agree! This has been going on for far too long. While Teddy may have had a good idea, this should have been up to the States from its inception.

Now, we have "UN Heritage Sites" within our borders. That is another level of oversight that should be unceremoniously tossed out the back door. Let the individual States forge agreements as to how to preserve or even whether to attempt to preserve those areas which cross State borders, and manage those which fall entirely within their borders. The States will be able to judge whether the preservation is justified in terms of the tax rolls.

Should private entities decide they want to preserve an area, let them buy it, without duress, preserve it, and let them pay taxes on it.

I was traveling through DC with my politically educated uncle and I asked why they did not simply widen the streets as the traffic was horrible. He said there were laws about not being able to remove (I think) plaques and monuments. He started pointing out monuments. There were enough that it would be impossible to widen the streets.

Once land has been designated as a monument (and probably other designations) it can’t ever be changed or developed differently. The idea in California is to prevent access to oil, minerals or other development. This is intended to purposely hold back the economy. It is to hurt America.

You guys are not thinking like communists and are missing the agenda behind this stuff.

They’re not looking for cash. They’re trying to rewild over half of the country and make it off limits to human use. That’s why you hear so much about climate change. Climate change is the tool for setting land aside as no use.

Currently in Seattle, San Fran, and Portland Oregon, they are eliminating single family zoning/homes and moving to stack and pack apartments.
Land ownership is not socially just you see.

Please try to read more about this coming communism.
It is the single largest threat we are facing. It is being the introduction of huge wolves in the west and the BLM land grabs. They plan to destroy hunting, ranching and all sporting use of land.

Actually what happened was that the designation of federal lands was changed to national monument status

The land was already federally owned as I read the piece
