Economic Libertarians Will Have a Friend in Ted Cruz
American Thinker ^ | February 11, 2016 | Theodore A. Gebhard, ...worked with Senator Cruz at the FTC from mid-2001 to 2003

"..economic libertarians and others who place a high value on property rights, the right to earn a living, and the right to open a business will find no better friend than Texas senator Ted Cruz...his work at the FTC established a foundation on which the cause of economic liberty progresses still today.Leading a team of senior FTC lawyers, Cruz...relentlessly [fought] against state laws conferring privilege on politically and economically powerful interest groups.Many of these laws do little more than protect entrenched incumbents from small entrepreneurs seeking to open a business and earn a living. Cruz and his team vigorously opposed unjustified state government privilege in such diverse occupations as attorneys,funeral directors,opticians, and mortgage brokers.The goal was always to open up markets to entry by anyone with the talent and desire to compete on a level playing field.

The legal theories that Cruz and his team developed from 2001 to 2003 continue to pay dividends.For example,last year those theories helped secure economic rights for small entrepreneurs providing teeth-whitening services in North Carolina shopping mall kiosks and similar venues...As a result,the new competitors began taking business away from the incumbent dentists.

In response to this emerging competition,...a North Carolina state-sanctioned agency controlled and elected by practicing dentists and..sent letters to the small operators threatening them with potential criminal liability for the unauthorized practice of dentistry.....

...Similarly,resting on the NCSB decision,a Texas telemedicine business brought an antitrust suit against the state's medical board,alleging that the board promulgated a rule for the unlawful purpose of protecting state-licensed physicians against competition from telemedicine providers.The rule prohibits doctors from treating people over the telephone.The court issued a temporary injunction requiring the medical board to suspend the rule pending the outcome of the litigation. ....after the NCSB decision,LegalZoom settled a long-running dispute with the N.C. State Bar...................

Perhaps you'll be more comfortable with the party that boo-ed God three times in their last convention. I understand your candidate Trump is a big supporter of them.

I support Cruz 100%, but he can stuff the VAT/Fairy Tax plan.

It might be OK if everyone was on it all their working life, but it would hose older people out of their savings.

Great! Ted Cruz has demonstrated how the Federal Government should dictate policy to the States! This is the kind of consistent conservative we need!

..I think you are mixing up Cruz feeling the freedom to make a decision about his candidacy with the ridiculous claims of Pat Robertson, who did say God told him to run in ‘88, Romney would win in 2012, and Carson would be the next President—no snakes with Cruz, just faith and commitment to freedom...

When he takes a position on something like climate change, Cruz proceeds to educate everyone on the subject... Bless his heart, it/s nice of Cruz to remind us how smart he is......He obviously believes we/re too dumb to know.

Watta guy. Lord deliver us from the delusional Harvard-educated Ivy League mind.

EXAMPLE Trump won everything but the kitchen sink in NH....now Sen Ivy League is saying he...Cruz...is the only one who can beat Trump.

Go figure....for self-serving Cruz---when he loses he tells himself he/s winning.

BTW, Sen Ivy League/s greatest accomplishment, to date? He duped trusting Texans into voting a Canadian into the US Senate.

Coincidentally (/snix), economic libertarianism also fits into the far-out Dominionist teachings Cruz/s father preaches.

The elder Cruz preaches to Dominionist audiences and tells the congregation that Rev 5:10 teaches that Christians are divided into Kings and Priests,.....the kings go out and conquer the financial world and bring the money back to the priests (pastors in contemporary terms).

Cruz/s dad has a goofy and weird history. He claims he was
ordained by some random church, went to a Bible college
that doesn/t exist, and that he is a Pastor who doesn/t
actually have a church.

Of course no all instances of Internet usage crosses state lines, but the internet is a nation/worldwide process to allow free exchange of ideas and commerce.

It can’t be efficiently regulated on a state by state basis.

You inability to understand simply principles says a lot about you, makes sense that you are a trumpeter.

Yep, because ‘older people’ don’t use the services those in the working force must pay....nor the ‘poor’. /s

“...Imagine a 10 percent income tax, with every American filling out his or her taxes on a postcard or iPhone app. And abolishing the IRS as we know it.” – Ted Cruz”

Let’s get some details:
- There’s STILL an IRS (’as we know it’).
- Still requires ‘voluntary’ ceding of 4th/5th Amendment Rights.
- Does nothing to correct the supposition of guilt by the taxpayer and theft (garnish, etc. before any trial let alone conviction).
- It only encompasses those w/ ‘income’ (not ALL Citizens. See opening point/jab)
- Still allows govt to tweak/carve out (see current tax code since inception)
- MOST importantly, IMO, still completely INVOLUNTARY (antithesis of a Free people/country).

Nope, I see only smoke and mirrors. More ‘tweaking’ of the current code; and nothing that will reign in govt; before it regroups, recoups and devours anew.

Older folks may have savings that took them a lifetime to earn, and has already been taxed, that would be taxed again.

That is a pile of crap.

Did Cruz bring the case before the FTC, no so someone felt the case had federal implications Cruz ruled for the ‘little guy’.

Deal with it. Your guy OTOH is a crony capitalist who used government to give him special breaks.

You really didn’t read the article. Ted Cruz WORKED AT THE FTC! Regardless of whether or not the ruling helped the “little guy”, it was still the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT imposing its will on the STATES on an issue of how companies did business within a State. Having the Federal Government dictate intrastate commercial practices is not a Conservative position.

Donald Trump made his money in REAL ESTATE. He did not get sweetheart loans from Goldman-Sacks or CitiBank. He did not make his money in Cattle Futures, or hedge funds.

This is why the establishment is so afraid of Donald Trump. He is not beholding to them for his money. He has been in the public eye for 40 years so everything bad that can be said about him is out already. He, like Reagan, has written extensively about what he wants to do to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Everything he wants to do is BAD for crony capitalist. Just look at building the wall and closing the border:
1. Shuts off the Cheap Labor Express;
2. Cuts back on the human trafficking that is supplying the perverts in the LGBT community;
3. Cuts out the drugs that cause increase social unrest to support the BLM and other grievance hustlers;
4. Cuts out the transfer of “social services” money to Democrat front groups for campaign kickbacks, etc.
5. Will make it possible to get a handle on the graft illegal immigrant activities.

And that is just starters on ONE of Donald Trumps proposed plans.

The old folks would pay a maximum of 10% on interest income and other investments.

And the prices of what they buy now already reflect a corporate tax rate of 39%. Cruz’s plan would halve that.

Cruz supporters answer this question. Do you believe Ted when he said God told him to run for president? As a Christian who seeks God for guidance and listens for his direction and confirmation, it does not sound strange or unreasonable at all to me. And that is probably the case for millions of evangelical believers. Because I don't know anything about your belief system, I can only say that you may or may not be aware that millions of Christians listen for guidance on a regular basis from the God they love and serve. Along with relationship with God also can come other "fruits of the Spirit" including discernment, which is also a part of learning to listen for God's "voice" (in quotes because it encompases many ways of communication). Bottom line is that Christians who regularly seek God's direction are often much more attuned to recognizing genuine vs pretenders. I am not infallible, but at this point, I have seen nothing to dissuade me from believing that Ted is a real Christian who is acquainted from experience with concepts of seeking God's guidance.

Can you provide a link showing where Ted said this? I have seen this claim made all over this forum, yet I have not seen the actual source of the claim. Not that I have any particular problem with it if he did - God gives me direction in my life all of the time.

Interestingly, that link never says that Cruz said God told him to run for president. It just says that Cruz when praying over the decision to run, he told God he was willing, and felt peace about the decision after praying. Obviously you are not an evangelical Christian if that seems odd to you...
