What About Ted Cruz?
The New York Times ^ | February 9, 2016 | Thomas B. Edsall

Despite Donald Trump's victory in New Hampshire, what is the chance that Republicans will nominate Ted Cruz and that he will go on to win the presidency?

The website ElectionBettingOdds gives Cruz a 14.5 percent chance of winning the nomination -- his victory in the Iowa caucuses and what looks like a third place showing in New Hampshire notwithstanding. It puts his chances of actually winning the presidency at 4.3 percent.

But let's say Cruz beats the odds and wins the nomination. One of the most conservative members of the Senate, Cruz would test the argument made by leaders of the hard right that Republicans have lost four of the last six presidential elections because their candidates -- George H. W. Bush of 1992, Robert Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney -- were insufficiently conservative.

For more than 50 years, Phyllis Schlafly, the right-wing icon and founder of the Eagle Forum, has been a relentless proponent of the nomination of far-right candidates like Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan.

In an Oct. 7, 2015, column, Schlafly wrote:

Establishment candidates have been unable to win the popular vote in five out of the last six elections, and that outcome is not something any Republican should want to repeat.

There is an unusual degree of consensus on the intensity of Cruz's conservatism among experts in campaigns, elections and partisan polarization....

Cruz would test the argument made by leaders of the hard right that Republicans have lost four of the last six presidential elections because their candidates — George H. W. Bush of 1992, Robert Dole, John McCain and Mitt Romney — were insufficiently conservative.

So many factors that make up winning. Number one being the condition of the electorate in the country. We see a socialist now days winning votes. Factors that cannot be determined is if someone will do a 3rd party run if they get upset.

All one can do is fight the good fight. At least this article shows who the NYslimes thinks is the one to fear the most (from their liberal perspective).

Go Cruz Go and congrats Trump fans on a solid win tonight.

Let’s see, Rafael saw his vote total tripled by his main competitor for the anti-establishment vote, was also beaten by a governor who didn’t contest Iowa (where Cruz was suppose to get his big “bounce”) and beat two other establishment candidates by less than 1%.

He can keep hinting at his “master plan” to win the nomination, but he’s got three weeks before his make or break date, March 1st.

If he’s pulling the percentage he did Iowa, much less New Hampshire throughout the South he may as well pack it in.

From the article:

I asked Alan Abramowitz, a political scientist at Emory, just how conservative Cruz is. Abramowitz replied:

Cruz's positions are on the far right of the Republican Party today which would certainly place him far to the right of past conservative leaders like Reagan or Gingrich during his years as Speaker. In fact, his voting record is among the 2 or 3 most consistently conservative in the Senate. He is very conservative on every issue dimension: economic policy, social policy and national security/foreign policy. He is running on that record - emphasizing his purity compared with his rivals.

**************

I have studied the writings of our Founders, so much so that at times I find myself thinking like them.

Right now I am reading Ted Cruz's Princeton thesis and I have to say that Ted is not a modern politician, instead his thinking mirrors the likes of James Madison and James Wilson.

Ted's thinking is so removed from most of the people in Congress that they can not grasp what he is saying and thinking.

This aspect of Ted Cruz relates to the fact that we are so far away from what our Founders created that when someone comes along speaking like our Founders not many in Congress have the ability to understand what he is saying.

When they say he is ''Far Right'' what they are proving is how little they know about our Founding documents.

Two people got more votes in New Hampshire tonight than Hillary Clinton: Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump! 89% of the Republican vote did not go to Ted Cruz.

What are they going to do at the times? H! Owns them. Tells them what to write. Today, her day is over. Her twenty five years are over. She has women over 66 as her base.

The times latched onto her. The Clintons. The times is fading. The Clintons are fading. She cannot pull off cheating away New Hampshire. She lost last time because she didn’t anticipate it. All the control in her world couldn’t do it.

The title of this article reads like this is the beginning of the end. What is the times going to do without the Clintons?

They’re going to work the republican rivalry? Trump just took over the Republican Party. He has absolutely no intention of losing to the republicans and zero thought of losing to Hilary. She has met get match. So have the republicans

Trump has no mercy for the fate of the times

Clinton actually won New Hampshire in the only way that matters: Delegates.

Hillary will run the south and will hit him harder. He’s a New York Jew Communist. Hillary dug up and dumped (1) nude photos of Obama’s momma and (2) the entire ‘birther’ issue.

She’s about to go ballistic.

Your fanatical view of Cruz is alarming and delusional.

Was Ted a good student? Yes, he probably was, but I have no proof of that.

No, I haven't read his thesis, but I don't have to. Actions speak far louder than old words and while many of the FFs were indeed visionaries who understood mankind, Cruz is incapable of doing either.

When Cruz flip flops on positions, he lies, makes flimsy excuses, gets other to corroborate his lies, and then goes merrily on from there.

And then there is his INELIGIBILITY to hold the office of president.
