A controversial voter-turnout tactic employed by Senator Ted Cruzâs presidential campaign in Iowa is cropping up in New Hampshire, this time by way of a mysterious organization about which few public details are available.
Voters in New Hampshire received envelopes in the mail this week claiming to contain âimportant taxpayer information,â according to Christopher Crawford, who received one of the mailers and posted pictures of it on Twitter. Mr. Crawford, who recently moved to Washington, was visiting his parents at their home in Nashua, N.H., this week when he opened an envelope addressed to him only to find a chart showing the names and voting history of several of his parentsâ neighbors.
âWhat if your friends, your neighbors, and your community knew whether you voted?â the mailer says, before promising Mr. Crawford that âwe plan to mail an updated chartâ after the New Hampshire primary.
The tactic, known as âvote shaming,â is designed to encourage people to turn out to vote.

I’d be more ashamed if my neighbors saw the NY Times on my doorstep.
We have seen these in Virginia for years. Usually in primary season. I have never read about anyone dropping dead after getting one in the mail. I don’t get what the hubbub is all about.
When it happened in Iowa it was a manufactured scandal looking for a guy for the MSM to hate. He already exists.
The same is true in New Hampshire. What utter nonsense.
In my view it’s “tacky”
the kind of stuff that vinyl siding and cheap window outfits use
It’s way below the level I’d expect Cruz to operate at.
Your kidding me? Is this the ‘dirty cruzier’ we have forward to looking at all thru this campaign? This is also a Federal Mail Fraud violation....
Thought he learned his lesson in Iowa over this...and who is dropping out of the campaign this time? Carson again, or Rubio, or Kasich?
What a dirty person he has turned out to be, and to think I thought he would make a fine V.P. or Attorney General, I wouldn’t offer him a ‘dog pooper picker upper’ position now...
Exactly what I said. I think I have gotten one or more of these every election. Big Deal.
Nobody said this had anything to do with the Cruz campaign. I didn’t know this was anything to be offended over since I have gotten the same type of election mailer for years.
And there ya have it. Nowhere does this article blame/credit Cruz for this mailing, but that doesn’t stop the Trumpons from blaming Ted.
Since it is anonymous and not from a known candidate, it is a serious matter. Seems to me it might be someone trying to have people relate it back to Cruz in Iowa. While he is not my first choice that would be a really low act. Before someone pops in with a Trump accusation I will add it would not benefit him but some lower ranking candidate might think it would move Cruz lower. Bush or Rubio come to mind.
I have a hard time believing anyone thinks direct mailing works anymore.
It all goes in the trash.
It is probably Kasich with some porridge in the bag.
The real wonder is people thought Iowa was the first time this kind of mailer has ever been used.
What is particularly troubling to some about these letters is that they purport to be from a New Hampshire state-sponsored program that does not exist. An independent voter from Bedford, N.H. sent LawNewz.com a scanned copy of the mailer. The New Hampshire Secretary of State's Office told LawNewz.com that they have received other similar complaints, and are now looking into the matter. This new mailer has a New Hampshire State emblem-like graphic with the title "New Hampshire State Voter Program" on the letterhead. There is no such state-sponsored program in New Hampshire, according to the Secretary of State's Office.
"I'd like to know who is responsible, they won't be getting my vote," New Hampshire voter William O'Shaughessy told LawNewz.com.
Really?
I’ve been in VA for a total of 25 yrs (off and on because of military tours, then the last 15 in retirement), been involved in many campaigns here and have never gotten one...drat, must’ve been in the wrong precincts all the time!
I've received a letter with exactly the same format, from exactly the same operation "Public Policy Matters" with a similar false claim of being part of a state-run voter program.
I figure all politicians are liars who deserve to be exiled from the country, so this sort of thing is run-of-the-mill.
