Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush argued his support for abortions in the cases of rape and incest would help him win the presidential race after he asked about his recent criticism of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's pro-life stance during Saturday's Republican presidential debate on ABC.
Former Fla. Gov. Bush, who currently averages fifth place in national GOP nomination polls, told CNN in an interview Friday that Rubio's belief that abortion should not be permitted in the cases of rape and incest would be a "tough sell" to pro-life mothers whose daughters had been raped
"So, I am pro-life but I believe there should be exceptions — rape, incest and when the life of the mother is in danger," Bush continued. "That belief and my consistency on this makes me, I think, poised to be in the right place — the sweet spot — for Republican nominee. Others may have a different view and I respect it. We have to be cognizant of the fact that there are a lot of people that are concerned about having a pro-life position without any exceptions."
Bush's comments during the Friday interview somewhat echo a remark made by fellow GOP candidate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who said Thursday that Rubio's stance on abortion would cause many New Hampshire voters to be "really concerned." During the debate he said aborting a rape-conceived baby is "an act of self-defense."
I don’t know and I don’t have my sweet Dr.O around to ask.
I only know that I would insist my family members take one if ever in that horrid situation.
I couldn’t agree more, onyx.
Yes, I think the rape/incest is a ruse, too and whenever used, should be accompanied by a valid police report, and I hate getting the government involved. Minor girls should be handled differently.
Here’s the correct song link, trisham.
Sorry.

I don't consider him a conservative - if it came down to it I'd hold my nose and vote for Trump the way I had to for Romney.

I hear you. It took me a long time to overcome my horror at the thought of a woman having to carry the child of her rapist to term, but I found myself drawn to this issue over and over again, despite how distressing it can be. I just kept reading and "listening". I'm glad I did.
Thank you!
Here’s a thread I posted ten years ago:

The mother and daughter are both doing great!
Aren’t the odds far more against being pregnant than in favor of it? In that case, something that is attacking disease would be called for. In fact, it would be necessary. If it also had the side effect of ending an unlikely pregnancy, then the unlikeliness of pregnancy would have to take a back seat to disease prevention, because the diseases out there are horrendous.
Disgusting. Both of them.
Yours is the most ignorant and uninformed post I’ve seen in awhile. Go educate yourself.
Explain. Or rather. ‘Educate me’.
A D and C a day or two after rape is a surgical procedure for no reason. It would not remove bacteria or viruses, nor would it necessarily end an early pregnancy that had not implanted yet. It would put the woman through a surgical procedure with risk of complications for no reason.
If an egg has been fertilized there is a pregnancy. You can do all the contortions you want to say after the fact birth control does not cause abortion, but it does. If your position is early abortion is OK in these circumstances, fine, but own it.
Disease is a real concern. How would you deal with contact type diseases, particularly viruses?
a D and C does nothing for disease. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics. If desired HIV prophylaxis (usually pills for several weeks/months) can be given, but there is no specific cure for viruses.
I’m asking about immediate treatment with the suspicion of such things having been introduced. There is nothing you can do to prevent their taking hold before they take hold?
Thanks very much!
That’s wonderful. Actually, beyond wonderful!
I note that she was 21 at the time.
For some reason, I always seem to equate rape and incest with minors, and perhaps that’s where I go wrong. I think most minor age girls are ill-equipped to handle traumatic events. That’s why I support the morning after pill.
antibiotics and HIV fighting meds can be given to ward off infection if desired/there is a suspicion of HIV or the rapist cannot be found or tested.
