Just how bad was the North Korea missile launch last night?
Hot Air.com ^ | February 7, 2016 | JAZZ SHAW

Posted on 02/07/2016 4:23:32 PM PST by Kaslin

This story actually broke just as we were warming up for the debate last night and our readers were discussing it in comments while most of the political sphere was focused on New Hampshire. Ahead of their original schedule, Kim Jong-un launched a missile into orbit allegedly carrying an “Earth observing satellite” over the objections of pretty much everyone else on the planet. Like we needed this on top of everything else that’s going on.(WaPo)

North Korea on Sunday declared that it had successfully put an "earth observation satellite" into orbit under the direct orders of leader Kim Jong Un, and said it planned to launch "many more."

Both the South Korean defense ministry and the Pentagon said that the rocket, launched at 9 a.m. North Korean time from a launch pad near the Chinese border, appeared to have successfully reached space.

The United States, Japan and South Korea immediately condemned the launch, a move widely seen as another step toward North Korea mastering the technology for making a missile capable of striking the mainland United States. The U.N. Security Council called an emergency meeting for later Sunday to discuss how to respond to the country's latest provocation.

It certainly looks like they put something into space, though how much of an actual satellite it is remains to be seen. The particularly bad news is that this was a long range launch, passing directly over Okinawa, and could hit any number of targets if it wasn’t heading for space. Couple that with their most recent nuclear weapons testing and you’ve got a recipe for some furrowed brows in all the western nations. For that matter, even China condemned the launch (though in rather mild tones) and they’re Kim’s only remaining friends in the world with any real power.

Even though the news was still fresh off the press it showed up at the GOP debate. Ted Cruz offered a few dire words on the subject when asked.

With respect to North Korea and what we should do now, one of the first things we should do is expand our missile defense capacity. We ought to put missile defense interceptors in South Korea. South Korea wants them. One of the real risks of this launch, North Korea wants to launch a satellite, and one of the greatest risks of the satellite is they would place a nuclear device in the satellite. As it would orbit around the Earth, and as it got over the United States they would detonate that nuclear weapon and set of what’s called an EMP, and electromagnetic pulse which could take down the entire electrical grid on the Eastern seaboard, potentially killing millions.

We need to harden the grid to defend ourselves, and we need missile defense to protect ourselves against North Korea.

There’s been plenty of discussion of the threat of a North Korean EMP attack on the United States for years now with varying opinions on just how effective it would be. The overwhelming consensus is that it certainly wouldn’t be good, but precisely how bad it would be depends on a lot of factors including the efficacy of the bomb, where it was relative to the continent, altitude and other questions which can’t be answered up front. Perhaps the bigger question is just how up to date our intelligence is and if we would really know for sure if they had developed the ability to load a bomb on such a mission.

The second, more obvious worry is that it wouldn’t be heading into space, but directly for Seattle. So what do we do about it? Missile defense systems in South Korea sound good, but there are logistic and political hurdles to that, mostly involving China. I’d love to have a definitive answer here short of wiping out Pyongyang preemptively, but I don’t. Thankfully I’m not running for president. Let’s hope whoever wins this election has something in mind, because North Korea is no longer just a hypothetical problem.

A team headed by Loral (Hughes in attendance) produced a technical report identifying a mnor problem in the flight-guidance system as the cause of the crash in February 1996 (Long March.)

The American experts at Loral did not check with the State Department, and the report was given to the Chinese. Several months later, they ``turned themselves in'' to the State Department, after which, the Pentagon launched an investigation, and concluded in its report, labeled ``secret,'' that ``United States national security has been harmed.''

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R., Calif.), Chairman of the House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee, said that U.S. expertise has ``perfected'' China's Long March rockets, which are identical in design to Chinese strategic nuclear missiles. A Loral employee said "The most interesting aspect of the accident was this: engineers who reviewed the recovered payload debris noticed something special that was missing: encryption hardware."

**********

A witness along with the MP's reported the same events as to how the missile guidance system hardware had been taken out by Chinese personnel and his report is in laymans terms:

Bill Clinton allowed the Loral missile guidance system to be sent to China and then, under close observation, it was to be installed in one of their rockets. All of this was done -to help China- by using our Loral system- to get their telephone communications system in place via one of their Long March rockets to a designated area in space.

That Chinese rocket crashed into a mountain across from the launch pad 2 1/2 minutes after it left the launch pad.

There was a detachment of 24 U S MP's that had been sent along with the guidance system box to make sure that it remained intact and unopened until installed (with our personnel observing).

The rocket left the launch pad with the Loral guidance system in it. When that Chinese rocket crashed, Chinese military personnel were immediately rushed to the crash sight and they surrounded the broken up rocket and kept our MP's away. Our 24 MP's were held back for three hours which allowed the Chinese the time to extract the guidance technology.

Bill Clinton was supposed to get clearance from a Congressionl committee before any military tech was allowed to leave our country But, Bill Clinton intentionally went bypassed the law and did not get the required clearance from the Congressional committee. It was Bill Clinton himself who allowed China to secure our latest missile guidance technology!

"When the 24 U S MPs where finally allowed to go to the rocket itself - they discovered that the encryption hardware had been removed."

That system could not be improved upon, and hasn't been impoved and it was and is the best. And now the Chinese have it and possibly have passed that technology on to Norht Korea.

The manuals and report on how to repair some issues with the guidance system were not supposed to be given to the Chinese but Loral personell did so before someone in top tiers of Loral could stop them. This was all in the Loral reports and this is why Loral, in court, pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a 2.1 million dollars in fines.

This is just one of the eight categories of treason that Bill Clinton performed. This Loral guidance technology theft is fully discussed in Senator James Inhofe's speech to Congress on June 23, 1999. Inhofe titled it the 'Clinton National Security and Coverup. It was Bill Clinton himself who is responsible for China stealing our missile guidance system technology.

We need to take emergency steps to prevent an immediate hit. That means moving our portable radar system to cover the southern hole IMMEDIATELY. The foreign enemy combatant acting as CINC is not going to allow this on his own. Congress needs to pass an emergency law - overriding Obama’s veto if necessary - FORCING the military to protect this nation against the wishes of the illegal CINC.

And we need to use the Patriot Act to “detain” the whole Obama family and the whole Valerie Jarrett family until they cough up the keys to stop this vulnerability. If the USA ship goes down they go down with it. This needs to be done IMMEDIATELY. Via a veto-proof act of Congress if necessary.

Can it be done?

Does that satellite go over all of the USA at one point or another? Does it go over DC, for instance? Could the Congress-critters be made aware at a particular point in time that there is a probable bomb hanging over their head at that precise moment and Obama is not protecting them from it because he’s got that lovely White House bomb shelter with medical provisions and everything else he needs to keep his family safe for years...

The only way they will do what is right is if they know the bomb is pointed right at them. And the only way Obama will do right is if Valerie Jarrett and his own family are forced to suffer whatever fate they throw at the rest of us. Detain them in a jail cell far away from the bomb shelter under the White House. Waterboard them if necessary, to find out how to stop this foreign enemy combatant from annihilating this country via his owners’ surrogates.

Kim is a proxy for China. He can and will act on China's behalf, while China keeps a poker face and laments those bad North Koreans, and those naughty things they did.

"Dropped Knife" strategy. Someone malevolent enough will pick it up and use it. Which is the whole idea of transferring nuclear technology to dirtbag governments.

Insane jihadis armed with nuclear weapons devastating the West and Russia appears to be the basic Chinese foreign policy. We need to negate that by doing what Jack Kennedy did: Go to the head office, offer the Chinese massive retaliation if they or their "dropped knife" proxies and subproxies go nuclear on a Western country.

The Chinese think they can take a nuclear strike and ride it out, enough Chinese surviving to guarantee the continuation of a Han Chinese Empire, which is what China really is.

We have to guarantee them that the Han Chinese will effectively disappear from the face of the earth in any general exchange. That is the only offer that will impress them.

Could the Armed Forces Committee order the Joint Chiefs of Staff to put the portable radar system in place immediately in the face of imminent existential threat to the USA?

And if Obama tries to stop it they then have the basis to order him detained under the Patriot Act as an enemy combatant?

Is there somebody on FR who knows how stuff has to be done? What is the proper emergency procedure for a CINC who refuses to defend the USA when she faces imminent existential danger?

Thank you for your post bump. We need to be reminded constantly that we have unaddressed and unredressed "manifest injury to the People of the United States" that calls for a formal Article III treason trial of Bill Clinton.

The definition of treason needs to be amended to include acts in favor of hostile states in time of nominal peace (cold war).

Thanks. It’s to the east of Paraguay now so it must have passed over DC since earlier this evening. It must have passed over every one of us. Tell me if I’m misunderstanding.

Maybe somebody needs to have an app or something that points laser dots on the US cities whenever they are within range of this satellite - just to raise awareness of the danger that our Congress and supposed POTUS are NOT protecting us from.

Space expert James Oberg said that with the polar orbit the North Korean satellite was launched in, it would be over Havana, Cuba 70-minutes after launch. He wonders if the North Koreans might have a small satellite tracking station in their Havana Embassy.

That address by Inhofe is eye-opening. Seemingly small things, like ending color-coded badges that helped people be identified according to their security clearances, make a huge difference. And those little steps allow the big sell-out of national security. I like the way he talked about nuclear missiles being pointed at America’s children. That’s what this means.

And right now nukes are pointed at every US child by crazy people who have no concept of “mutually assured destruction”. Kim Jong Un is a madman. Iran WANTS to start Armageddon. ISIS wants to wipe us out and will commit suicide to do it - and is being let in the door daily by Obama.

People have no idea that Able Danger identified the Brooklyn Al Qaeda cell that perpetrated the 9-11 attacks but the intel was destroyed because Able Danger’s open-source data mining also found connections between our own Secretary of Defense and the Chinese military commander’s wife - a connection that was ultimately used for Clinton to illegally funnel satellite encryption to the Chinese military. Clinton had to destroy the credibility of Able Danger and get them off the trail because his own SecDef’s treason was beginning to be sniffed out by this group. Clinton and his SecDef personally knew that data mining was effective - and that data mining had identified the AQ cell that would eventually kill 3,000 Americans going about their normal business on 9-11-01. They were willing to have that intel destroyed - condemning 3,000 Americans to death by terrorists who could have been stopped - because it was necessary to cover their own treason.

And Obama continues in the same path, though even worse because he is aiding groups that are on suicide missions to destroy the US. There is no reasoning with them; they are madmen.

People NEED to know this. People NEED to know there is a laser dot directly on them, and this foreign enemy combatant in our White House will not LET the US military protect us.

The North Koreans and Cubo working together on satellites that could destroy America?

But, but.... Obama is best buds with Castro. And in November and December he’s going to be in South America, Cuba, etc to gloat with all his wonderful commie buddies who hate the USA but LOVE Obama....

It almost looks like Obama is one of them - he who was illegally placed into our White House by the coup of 2008. If people could know the truth of what has been done since then to keep Obama’s coup from being exposed they would see how very much on our own we are; the system is NOT doing ANY of the protocols and law-keeping that is supposed to keep us safe. They are all screwing us big-time.

Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, James Inhofe, Joni Ernst, and Jeff Sessions are among the members of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, according to http://www.armed-services.senate.gov/ . So is my Senator, Deb Fischer.

These people need to be bombarded with input about this. I think it would happen if somebody made a website or something that could go viral, showing exactly which cities are under NK’s laser unprotected at any given moment in time. Does anybody know somebody who could create such a website, to be made viral?

These people serve the entire USA in their role on that committee. Can people who are not constituents of their states still contact them without having their communications trashed for lack of “constituency”?

Can these satellites shoot stuff within a certain range? How do we know what area they would be able to impact?

I wish I knew more about this stuff.

The satellites weigh about 200 lbs and are probably the size of a kitchen dishwasher or refrigerator.

They are traveling at 17,500 mph. To come down, it would have to slow down by a few hundred miles per hour, just enough to reach the top of the atmosphere (about 75 mile up). Once it hits the atmosphere it starts slowing down faster and would probably land or burn up 1/3 orbit from where it started re-entry. If they wanted to drop something on Washington, DC, coming from the south, it would have to start re-entry over South America.

If it contained a nuke and wanted to do an EMP, it doesn’t have to come down from where it is. If the North Koreans have a satellite control at their embassy in Havana, they could set off the thing as it passes over the U.S.

OK...so dumb question for the President or next President, why don’t we just shoot the satellite down over open ocean?

We know North Korea didn’t put that satellite up there to get television signals!

Oh wait, our space program has a very different mission these days...
