Trump: Bush family used eminent domain to build a baseball park
The Hill ^ | 2/7/16 | Bradford Richardson

Following attacks from primary rival Jeb Bush about his past use of eminent domain, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump on Sunday accused the Bush family of using the practice to build a baseball stadium in Texas.

"Eminent domain is a very important thing," Trump said on ABC's "This Week." "Jeb Bush doesn't understand what it means, and if you look into the Bush family - I found this five minutes ago - they used eminent domain for the stadium in Texas, where they own, I guess, a piece of the Texas Rangers."

When host George Stephanopoulos said that was Jeb's brother, former President George W. Bush, Trump said his point still stands.

"That doesn't matter," he said. "It was the Bush family. They used private eminent domain. He didn't tell anybody this. So, I mean, he should have told people."

"Maybe - he probably doesn't know because I don't think he even knows what eminent domain is," he added.

George W. Bush enriched himself by eminent domain

By seesdifferent
Sunday Jun 26, 2005 1:51 PM EDT

One of the most famous eminent domain cases involved the Cowboys’ future home of Arlington, where baseball’s Texas Rangers play. At the time, future President George W. Bush was an owner.

MORE ON THE PREZNINT’S PROJECT BELOW

In 1991, the team convinced local voters to approve a tax increase that helped build a new $191 million stadium. The city of Arlington used eminent domain to acquire the property from hundreds of private owners, claiming the stadium was a “public use” just like highways, schools, and government buildings.

Several property owners were lowballed, and court decisions increased their final take. The compensation for one 13-acre plot was increased from $877,000 to $5 million, for example. The city, not the team, was held responsible for making the larger payments.

The stadium clearly benefitted the Rangers’ owners more than anyone else. Bush turned his initial $600,000 investment into $15 million when the team was sold in 1999. But it has produced little of the promised economic benefit to Arlington, and there has never been a real “public use” factor aside from baseball fans’ paying their money to see games.

I think you'll see some limos parked over there. This 18 passenger Hummer limo would be great for the whole Bush Family to ride in to Arlington as they check out the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys stadium complete with limo parking built with eminent domain. Trump was never able to build a limo parking lot with eminent domain, but the Bush family did. I've got to hand it to the Bushes!

There was a lot of controversy on the Clinton Library.
I live in Little Rock and the Clinton Foundation rather than buy the property or someone donating it they used a very complicated deal involving public land and turning into a park to get the property.

Not sure they really used Eminent Domain on this but some of that property was contaminated needed to be cleaned up by the State EPA. Big mess all the way around.

“Do you ever get dizzy.”

The way he spins, he must have learned to reverse direction after several laps, like my dog does when she does a few laps on the front lawn! Helps stench the dizziness!

Yo, Mr. Trump!!

Am I remembering correctly about some Freepers and many others who traveled to Florida to protest a land grab by Gov. Bush who was taking farms for ‘everglades restoration’???

AH, yes, here it is! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1013650/posts
FLORIDA DONATES LAND FOR EXPANSION OF EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK

Also, Scotus John Roberts, friend of Ted Cruz and recruited by Cruz does not object to the Kelo decision. He says the congress still has the power to regulate Kelo, if they choose to.

Bush complained and got the taxpayers to pay for the nrw ball park. Then he sold it and made millions. Courtesy of the taxpayers. That’s the way the Bushes do business.

Cleveland Indians Ballpark and Cleveland Cavaliers were able to be developed by the Gateway Corporation.

Eminent domain was used to obtain a few of the parcels at to develop the Gateway complex. Our company owned significant assets nearby this site.

For the Lower Prospect area in downtown Cleveland, the amount of economic development and revitalization created were incredible and created a number of jobs. To this day, the “Gateway” district is one of the only thriving areas in Downtown Cleveland.

Without it, I am convinced that we would have lost the Cleveland Indians franchise to Tampa and all of the economic development that went along with it.

Eminent domain has to be used wisely and judiciously but the inability use eminent domain to help revitalize the inner city, is really bad for all landholders in urban areas.

Now Trump is praying that the subject of eminent domain comes up in the next debate(s). He’ll be prepared with the info that Bush and Clinton have used it and, by then, he’ll have a list a mile long to attribute to other candidates.

I would like to abbreviate Eminent Domain but it doesn’t work (without Viagra).

I vaguely rember the Clinton Library story sounded a lot like the Whitewater scandal. They gave some of the WW land to the state for a public boat dock then the state built a road through the Whitewater property to the boat dock/ramp.
