Austria is to step up the deportation of migrants by sending at least 50,000 home just as Germany has told refugees that their welcome was temporary.
Last September the two countries opened their borders to hundreds of thousands of people fleeing conflict and poverty across Africa and the Middle East. Despite an outpouring of sympathy for their plight, there has been growing public concern about crime and security, forcing the governments to pull back from the open-door policy.
Yesterday the Austrian authorities said that they would carry out at least 50,000 deportations over the next four years. The number of asylum claims would also be capped at 127,500 during that time.
Austria followed Germanyâs lead in adding Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia to the list of âsafe countries of originâ, effectively making asylum applications from these states impossible

No returns! No store credit! You break it, you bought it!
Of course teamobama will make sure they come here.
Four years? Why not four weeks?
Austria says “Four years” and those “migrants” hear “Never.” Because that’s what Austria really means.
Yes, on top of Sweden and Denmark.
Good. All Europe should do the same.
Super!
Maybe the other EU nations will follow.
I don’t believe a word of it. The Austrian authorities are just attempting to appease the angry populace.
“Four years? Why not four weeks?”
Yeah, in four years they will have knocked up half the female population! Their genitals are their “weapon of choice” in Europe.
Ausslander Raus
How will Austria round up all those people? I'm guessing they will send out letters. How many immigrants will respond to those letters, and show up for deportation? I'm guessing zero.
So then Austria will either have to round up those people by force, or forget about the whole thing. If they choose the former, airports will become violent, chaotic places. if they choose the latter...then what's the point?
And one more thing. Suppose Syria, etc. denies those Austrian planes landing rights. Then what?
I’m dubious myself. How will they actually do this?
It’s the whole “four years” deal. They don’t mean to deport anyone. If they did, they would round them up and put them in miserable hell-hole camps on the state border, and tell them they are free to go outside of Austria any time they wish to any country that will take them.
When the “world” complains, Austria can tell their critics that if they really care about these people, come and get them. They are theirs for the taking.
Why take so long?
+1
This is lip service.
In four years time - it will be too late.
Yep, I think you're right about that. It's sort of like US presidential candidates. They all say they'll balance the budget. Not now of course...but in four years from now.
Yeah, like Hitler said after the Nazis took power, “Give us four years, if you don’t like what we’re doing, we will give up power.”
Shoot them into space. It’s the only way to be sure.
