Goodell proposes ejection for two personal fouls

SAN FRANCISCO -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear on Friday that he's prepared to crack down on egregious on-field penalties.
--SNIP--
"I believe the league should pursue a policy where if there are two personal fouls in a game, there's an automatic ejection of a player," Goodell said. "I believe that that's consistent with what we believe are the safety issues, but I also believe it's consistent with what we believe are the standards of sportsmanship that we've emphasized."

Well it does and it doesn’t. Yes some of it is just the constant beating, but full fledged concussions, which often come from illegal plays, certainly contribute. I’ve got no problem with kicking players out who manage to get multiple personal fouls in a game. For one thing it doesn’t happen very often, and if it does the player is probably a thug. Anybody that thinks it’s wussy to kick players out for showing a blatant disregard for the rules and the safety of other players is just a tough talking moron. Really the teams should already be benching those players, anybody costing them at least 30 yards (depending on the spot of the infraction) being stupid is not contributing.
The demonizaton of the sport of football is in full swing. The left and media want us to all turn to soccer and be like the Eurowenies and South Americans. Within 10 years football will be either 2 hand touch or flag while the media continues to pump the world cup down our throat. I cant stand watching 12 lawn fairies kicking a ball back and fourth for 60 minutes without scoring. Watching paint dry is more exciting.
He’s suspended for the first three games next year. I don’t think it’s a response to that so much as catching up. The other sports all have various rules that multiple infractions will get you kicked out. In the NBA stacking up technicals even results in suspension, and technicals don’t even involve physical contact.
I'm with you re: the lawn fairies. It doesn't even allow for staged between inning events. My grandson got to race the team mascot at a minor league game last year and that staged event alone created a lot more excitement than soccer sissies.
Unfortunately, that will eliminate a lot of jobs for the big beefy types. But it will create a lot of jobs for the fast maneuverable types.

A lot of people are not thinking this through because it's messing with their sport but football has changed a lot since the 1970s. People think it was more brutal in the olden days but the modern teams play on artificial astro turf, modern players are more huge and powerful than past players and wear hard body armor. Basically you have a human mini car smashing you into hard astro turf.
Think outside the box. Make the game be played on real grass (soccer does that), maybe less protection for fans. I know it sounds counter intuitive but thanks to me becoming an MMA trainee - (for exercise not for sport) I am told that it is safer for the fighter because boxing with a padded glove just adds to the trauma. A bare fist to the head limit's the impact on the head. Same principal with football - maybe the hard helmets make it easier for players to charge head first into others?
Like it or not - if football does not address this parents will stop signing up their kids for the sport even in the south.
For goodness sakes just make it flag football and get it over with!
What the??? Why did I wrote that - maybe less protection for fans should read maybe less protection for PLAYERS.
Wrote = write. OK, I think I have a concussion!
A j@ck@$$ is less likely to use his helmet for a battering ram if he risks a serious neck injury in the process.
The concussion epidemic: Should helmets be banned from football?
Funny that, if you get sent-off in soccer, your team plays a man down the rest of the game. It's a harsh rule . . . maybe the NFL should man up.
If NFL and MLB meant business, they would have LONG AGO been serious about REMOVING drug addicts and thugs from their sports....
I think of Steve Howe, multiple drug abuser from baseball....Or Roberto Alomar who spit in an umpire’s face....Or any of the many ‘roid rage guys from football.
The NBA is too far gone imo.
Long as he’s at it, why not throw in illegal procedure, offsides, etc. Two violations of any rule is still repeated attempts at cheating and should result in a suspension and fine.
If a star player gets into a fight and draws a flag, now the opponents know they can bait him until he draws a second foul and gets tossed. One-man teams like Adrian Peterson and Cam Newton would be the first targets.
And wait until Sharpton and Jackson realize that 95% of personal fouls are committed by one minority group!
Agree totally. I watch and wonder, who are the a-holes teaching guys like this to hit like that? I was never taught to lead with the top of my head when making a tackle.
The NCAA already does this. It’s a good rule.
I have no problem with that. Most PFs are because a player is acting like a jerk / idiot. The NFL should not allow that type of behavior, period.
Blaine and Antwan...good show.
Goodell has to go.
He is intent on letting pansies play the game. No gays...but sissies.
Or they could just lose a player for a set of downs, or drive. That could be fun.
