Goodell proposes ejection for two personal fouls

SAN FRANCISCO -- NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear on Friday that he's prepared to crack down on egregious on-field penalties.
--SNIP--
"I believe the league should pursue a policy where if there are two personal fouls in a game, there's an automatic ejection of a player," Goodell said. "I believe that that's consistent with what we believe are the safety issues, but I also believe it's consistent with what we believe are the standards of sportsmanship that we've emphasized."

The CTE has nothing to do with illegal plays. It comes from the incessant collisions that are an intrinsic and unavoidable part of the game which is now played by players who are bigger, stronger and faster than ever before.
Is he issuing yellow and red cards to the refs?
It’s fitting he declared this from the faggot capital.
Unfortunately, that will eliminate a lot of jobs for the big beefy types. But it will create a lot of jobs for the fast maneuverable types.
Yeah, that's the obvious source of this idea. So, I guess the question is, would a player who is ejected for two personal fouls also be suspended for the next game?
They did in the NHL years ago. The Game Misconduct penalty. I think it was Clarence Campbell who instituted it. I could be wrong.
The NFL wants everyone to concentrate on the single massive blows that cause actual concussions, not the lighter repeated blows to the brain that occurs through the course of a football career into the pros.
Freegards
Is this a response to that?
They should phase in a weight limit over time.
Maybe no one can be over 290 pounds.
I like to see where they’d have to play a man down for the rest of the game.
I don't see anything wrong with it.
While it's possible to pick up personal fouls from bad calls, it seems the idea here would be to eject someone for two flagrant personal fouls. This would be a good rule for guys like Burfict or Suh.
there's plenty of room in football for good hard play. Dirtbags should be discouraged from making plays intended to injure other players. Enough get hurt just in the regular conduct of the game.
This is about more than head injuries.
I’m not sure that I see what the problem is. Goodell is talking about egregious personal fouls which have nothing to do with the play of the game. He isn’t saying do away with hard hits, he is saying do away with cheap hits. There are some thugs in the NFL who need to be shown the timeout corner once in awhile.
"We give Roger, Two Snaps, and our backfields in motion."
Well, that would put an end to it but don't think you'd ever get anyone to agree to it. Kind of cool in hockey though.
College now has automatic ejections for “Targeting”, but some of those calls were really ridiculous.
