Assad Forces Poised to Take Back Aleppo
Newsweek ^ | 02/04/2016 | Faysal Itani

In a serious blow to the rebellion, the Syrian regime has severed the main insurgent supply line from Turkey to long-contested Aleppo, Syria’s second city.

This is the culmination of several tactical regime victories against the opposition in recent weeks, largely due to Russian air support. Although some Western policy-makers (and many opposition supporters) continue to insist that Russia and its allies are sinking into a quagmire in Syria, the facts on the ground indicate that it is the insurgency and its backers who are stuck in a morass.

Since the beginning of February, the regime took several towns north of Aleppo city, most prominently Nubl, Zahraa and Bashkoy, succeeding in a few days in what it had failed to do for over three years. The regime could not have retaken these towns without support from Russia, which conducted more than 270 air raids on the areas north of Aleppo city on February 1 and 2 alone.

no It isn’t.

I KEPT wondering how this wasnt all over in half a year with the coalition having the best air force in the world and ISIS having none.

never heard of that before in history.

Now I understand. We did almost nothing.

The regime and its allies had already been on a winning streak. In previous weeks, using cluster munitions and volumetric weapons,

If the US had used these types of weapons, the press would be screaming "war crimes". And they wouldn't use the term "volumetric", but substituted the other name for it: gas-air bomb (an indiscriminate area bomb).

You are correct. Also, I am not sure the U.S. and Western Europe really knew which side they were supporting.
For Russia, it knew which side to support.

No, its worse than that. Our "allies" the Saudis and Turks see ISIS as a tool to be used to defeat Assad, poke the Iranians in the eye, and punch the Russians in the nose. They imagine that like Libya, once the regime is toppled, and their cronies are in charge of the oil and central bank, can write government contracts, and take Syria's seats in all international organizations, ISIS is simply a nuisance they can deal with over time.

Obama and the US Government are complicit in this.

The Syrian people should have never risen up against the regime of Asad . Syria was stable , if under a heavy hand . Barack Hussein Obama , in his speech in Cairo in 2009 , got the entire Arab world populous stirred up ; that if something was wrong in their countries , THEY could change it . Where exactly has this worked and what have been the costs ?

I maintain that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton should both be arrested and charged with monumental worldwide crimes against humanity , for stirring that pot . Knowingly or unknowingly where that would lead .

Only a public trail , conviction and incarceration of those 2 can show that world that the USA has finally woken up .

Here at home , for large numbers of people to be enthusiastic for and trying to get Hillary Clinton elected POTUS is also a crime . An ethic crime against our nation . And THEY ALSO should be held accountable . How can people be so stunningly stupid ?

About those Syrian rape-o-gees,

“HEAD ‘EM UP”

“MOVE ‘EM OUT”

Send them back to their claimed homeland of Syria and let their elected government sort them out.

it will interesting to see how many will suddenly claim not to be Syrian, but that’s just to bad we’ll have to take them at their first claim since all the paperwork has been filled out.

We are not permitted to bomb on a majority of ISIS targets due to a fear of civilian casualties. Russia doesn’t have to worry about being PC in their wars.
