Of all the things you can call John Heilemann, one thing you cannot is "clandestine Republican operative." So it might be a sign of just how frazzled the Hillary campaign has become that her spokesman has in essence accused Heilemann of being a GOP catspaw.
On today's With All Due Respect, Heilemann pressed Clinton spox Brian Fallon as to whether Hillary would call herself a liberal. Fallon sought refuge behind the term "progressive." When Heilemann persisted, Fallon snapped "you're asking me because you want the RNC to clip this and turn it into a 15-second ad." Paging Richard Hofstadter's Paranoid Style in American Politics.

Watch Hillary’s mouthpiece weasel away from admitting she’s a “liberal.”
Pin to Liberal Media Criticism list.
We hardly need confirmation.
H->! is more of a Socialist than The Burn.
The Democrat primary, an Old Scary Commie going against a Commie wannabe
Progressive is just an elitist term used by liberals who are too embarrassed to admit they are dumbass liberals.
Oh you mean what the left does to every front runner opponent? The stephanopolus technique?
he’s a psycho (see college sex essay) but i think he actually loves the country and in his mind socialism is what’s best, and he’s not a multi millionaire. of course he’s dead wrong, but sincere.
she doesn’t give a dam about the country. never did.
Sometimes yes. I consider myself a liberal, in the 19th century meaning, of favoring constitutions, rule of law, reasonably large franchise for representative government, free market economics, and extensive personal freedom. “Progressives” hope to use Big Government to stop all that, micromanage the economy, tax everyone but themselves into poverty, and generally run every aspect of your life as they see fit. That sounds a lot like Nurse Hillary Ratched, but doesn’t capture her dictatorial nature. She’s a Progresso-fascist.
This is so funny......and instructive.
The liberal brand seems to have become a bit tainted now, huh?
The descriptor was co-opted by the Left in the first place. Their movement has been functionally illiberal, contra-liberal for decades. For that matter, “progressive” is beginning to acquire a somewhat odoriferous connotation isn’t it? For sure, they brought it on themselves.
We need to hit them where it hurts, the nomenclature is of immense importance. Are they socialists? Marxists? Communists? Fascists? What they are can best be described as nihilists, but I’m not sure we can make that stick.
At the water cooler, I like to call them anti-capitalists, because my liberal friends have great difficulty denying it, so it’s an easy argument to win. They want so badly to admit it. Then it’s easier to segue into tagging them with one or more of the above.
