To be sure, Sen. Ted Cruz accomplished something no other GOP candidate this year has been able to do. He made Donald Trump a loser. No amount of humility or grace will change the fact The Donald was handed his first "L" at the hands of that "Canadian" nobody likes. And it wasn't even close.
Yet, even as Cruz might like to revel in this history-making night in Iowa, the storyline has shifted away from him to the emergence of Marco Rubio as a viable alternative in the GOP race. Not only did Trump lose to Cruz, he almost lost to Rubio in a dramatic, last-minute surge that propelled Rubio to within 1 percentage point of second place.

And now 7 people know the answer to that question.
If Trump fails, I will be supporting Rubio because I want to see the Cruz supporters accuse the anchor baby of not being a NBC. That’s when the fun really begins.
Because someone CNN hates won the vote.
This story just confirms what many (myself included) said after Iowa.
Rubio was the big winner.
Why? Because the establishment hates Cruz and hates Trump.
Rubio is the next guy up. Cruz and Trump kill each other (Gingrich / Santorum) and Rubio moves up (Romney).
All of the money people from Bush will go to Rubio. Rubio basically killed off his mentor - the guy who helped him get into politics he stabs in the back.
Rubio can be controlled. He ran as a Tea Party guy and was co-opted by the Uniparty and was out as part of the Gang of Eight to create 30 million new Democrat voters.
CNN is promoting Rubio. Fox is promoting Rubio. They had Luntz with a pro Rubio ‘focus group’ after the debate and, oh, Rubio just happens to stop by for a chat. Total shill mode.
Rubio is the threat.
Rubio lost.
Trump lost.
Cruz Won.
Rubio won’t get very far. In Iowa he was able to consolidate the establishment vote. But in NH there’s Jeb, Christie, Kasich..
Cruz will be unstoppable when the Ontario primary rolls around.
The 1/8 owner of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 can and must be defeated on the issues like that, especially when he gangs up with the likes of schumer, Dustbin, Linda and McPain.
Trump dodged a bullet. Cruz lost.
Good one!
How did you think of something so original?
Rubio won the ‘battle of who the Establishment boy’ is.
Can you not understand that?
He beat Jeb (and all Jeb’s money), Kasich, Christie.
He’s now the go to guy. Even Cruz got money to day from Club for Growth (open borders) and Goldman Sachs.
But the big winner was Rubio. Think loooong term campaign. He is this year’s Romney.
You are like a genius or something!
“Why? Because the establishment hates Cruz and hates Trump.”
True.
Favor? Next time post the author as well. You left that field out.
I’m curious who spews forth this spin, but I’m not going to go to the CNN link.
Exactly. Rubio got enough of a vote to call it a win and he’s completely owned by the Uniparty (gang of 8).
Now they laugh as we (Cruz and Trump people) throw rocks at each other.
Rubio skates through at the ‘he’s the one that can win’ ‘electable.’ As a Fox contributor said, “He’s the young John F. Kennedy to Hillary’s Richard Nixon.”
I swear Fox is pre scripted for commentary. The whole damn night was push Rubio.
Rubio is DOA due to his Gang of 8 sell out.
You are a few years late in realizing he is GOPe.
Rubio came in in ‘10 as a legitimate Tea Party candidate.
He said and still says the right things. He offed Charlie Crist, a real RINO liberal. That was no small matter.
But he got seduced by the GOPe who are obsessed with the idea of getting the Hispanic vote.
Rubio was always looking ahead and was betting he could win in 2016 as the Hispanic champion, with his ability to speak Spanish.
But he just capped his own knees with their failed Uniparty amnesty plan.
Unfortunately, Trump running off the rails had given Marco Amnesty a bit of a boost.
Trump lost.
Cruz Won.
That's far from what occurred.
Someone posted this in another thread and it concisely states what the TRUE outcome really was.
Iowa was a three way tie. Cruz got 8 delegates, Trump 7 and Rubio got 7.
Cruz didn?t win, and Trump nor Rubio lost. It was a tie. And I see this as very reflective of the current state of the GOP.
Trump pulled roughly 1/3 of the GOP with mostly anti-establishment voters.
Cruz pulled roughly 1/3 with conservatives
Rubio pulled the establishment voters.
How is he DOA? He finished fist among the establishment group. He’s hauling in millions. He performs well in N.H. and S.C. and he will be THE guy for them.
Meanwhile, Cruz and Trump bash the crap out of each other while they laugh.
