Here is a link to the CNN breaking news report that started the speculation that Carson was about to drop out of the race. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1085531334800368&id=100000305365400&_rdr

Carson first blamed the media but then decided to blame Cruz. His feigned outrage can't mask the fact that he was leading the polls for a long period of time and then tanked. He needs to blame someone other than himself.
Funny how they ignore the absolute weirdness of leaving Iowa on caucus night for Florida to pick up some clean clothes. The weirdness of Ben Carson should be the conversation but they would rather attack the guy they fear over the most trivial nonsense.
Fine, but that doesn’t fix a damn thing. Cruz can apologize until the sun burns out, he probably won because of these stolen votes.
Hey, it’s fine. It’s not like we would think of electing an effeminate, arrogant, first term, junior senator who was long on ideological talk, short on accomplishments, and needed a pack of excuse-making wagon circlers to protect his every move. We did that in 2008 and learned our lesson.
Exactly.
None of it matters. A lie was told and passed on by Cruz and he Cruz benefited from it. Kind of de-legitimizes his win in my opinion.
Candidates were dropping like flies yesterday - O’Malley, Huckabee.
It is not unconcievsble that Carson was going to drop out. CNN just wanted to report the scoop after they found out that Dr. Carson went to Florida to pick up some “clean clothes”. BTW don’t they have drycleaners out in Iowa?
The Cruz campaign did nothing wrong. Steve King just has “twitter fingers” is all.
Excellent, thanks for posting that link.
The CNN report about Cruz’s apology (at http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/02/politics/ted-cruz-ben-carson-apology/index.html ) said:
“One day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Cruz issued an apology to Carson after his staff falsely told Iowa caucusgoers that Carson planned to quit the race, calling it a “mistake.”
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson’s actions that way......
CNN reported that the retired neurosurgeon planned to go home to Florida after the Iowa caucuses, rather than flying straight to New Hampshire or South Carolina, where the next primary contests are held.?”
First, a Freeper received the email from the Cruz campaign but didn’t see it until AFTER the caucus, as was probably the case with a bunch of people. He posted it at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3391674/posts?page=242#242 . The claim was that CNN had said Carson would stop campaigning after Iowa, not that he was quitting the race. And this CNN clip does have them saying he was not going to go to NH or SC but was going to go to the prayer breakfast in DC on Thursday.
Second, CNN is saying they hadn’t characterized this as indicating that Carson was dropping out. But this video clip shows they were VERY MUCH characterizing it that way.
Third, their reports did NOT talk about Carson going to FL instead of going DIRECTLY to NH or SC. That comment in this article suggests that CNN is claiming CArson IS going to NH or SC once he’s been in FL for a bit, when their report actually said that he was NOT GOING to NH or SC at all.
CNN is busted on all this.
When did CNN have an on-air correction? And when have they apologized to Carson, Cruz, and all the IA caucus-goers? Seems to me like they are, instead, lying to try to cover up what they did.
I heard the story last night while down in the barn and it is as you depicted. Anderson cooper did say that he was wearing the same suit for the past four days.
“There are none so blind as one who will not see.”
Ted begs so much people get sick of it too.
No kidding!
Isn’t it time for you to feed the cats?
CNN was sending out false or at least misleading info.
Cruz COULD HAVE called Carson directly or his people. Instead, he ran with the lie because it was useful.
Carson’s own wife was at one caucus where it was announced Carson was dropping out. She corrected them.
It was a dirty trick but perhaps those on the ground didn’t know what the truth was.
Everyone wants to win and can justify doing anything to get there. Remember CREEP?
I think it was Rubio who benefitted from it. He won several of the counties where speakers for Cruz brought this up.
.
You mean the Trumpets?
Let ‘em starve!
.
But Ted produces!
It’s only a lie and slimy if they knew it wasn’t true. True, they could have called Carson’s campaign and asked but I do imagine that things were very busy right then, getting set up for the caucus.
And it was probably confusing for Carson too, because he had the snowstorm he wanted to get ahead of. I think somebody had said that he had said he’s a pragmatist and if he didn’t win the first primaries he would drop out. As I understand it, even after all this he’s STILL not planning to campaign for the next primary which is strange if you’ve said you’ll drop out if you don’t win it.
I think the long and short of it is that Carson IS going to drop out, and his supporters will need to decide what to do. Maybe it seems vulturish for the Cruz campaign to bring it up before he officially drops out but I’m sure the Carson supporters have been asking themselves how long he’d stay in.
All in all, Cruz was right to apologize for not correcting as soon as Carson clarified, even though at that point it was probably too late to make any difference.
All in all, it was dead wrong for CNN to use this to try to frame Cruz as being a jerkwad and it is TOTALLY CLASSLESS for them to refuse to apologize to everybody for their false report.
Nevertheless, this is now a non issue. Let’s stop the infighting and take it 100% to the enemies Clintons and Sanders and Obama.
This election is FAR too important to keep jacking around with infighting and letting the MSM control the agenda. ENOUGH. Like Obama and Slick Willie, there are warts ALL OVER Clinton, Sanders, Biden . .anyone the Demonrats want to nominate.
Go after THEM. People are sick and tired of their lies, corruption, socialism, and BS
Cruz and team should have confirmed with Carson before sending out rumor or misinterpreted news - period. Especially just prior to voting.
How foolish of them to think/assume a candidate would end their campaign the night of the first voting!
They wrongly and selfishly heard it as they wanted and then chose to pass along their interpretation of the news. CNN may have been in the wrong, but King and Cruz were definitely wrong in assumption and further action - costing Carson likely votes and no one knows how the true results would have been.
