(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc is planning to open hundreds of brick-and-mortar bookstores, the head of a major U.S. mall operator said.
Such an expansion, which Amazon itself has not confirmed, would position the world's No. 1 online retailer as a competitor to booksellers such as Barnes & Noble Inc. At present, Amazon operates a single bookstore in its home city, Seattle.
"You've got Amazon opening brick-and-mortar bookstores and their goal is to open, as I understand, 300 to 400 bookstores," Sandeep Mathrani, chief executive of General Growth Properties Inc, said on Tuesday.

Being that they rely heavily on UPS, FEDEX, and even the USPS alot I could see them opening stores right next door to these stores that Fedex, UPS, and the Post office, have in shopping centers, Probably not so much the post office but you get my idea.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to get Amazon products shipped to random places across the US when I travel.
A local Amazon presence would solve that.

Our Books-a-Million is large but comfy-feeling, well-stocked....with the mandatory coffee bar and pastries...and lots of gift items other than books. It seems to do a good business. I have a card which nets me a pretty good discount on my purchases.
I love browsing in books stores. I don't think I'd feel inclined to browse around in store named "Amazon".

That pretty much guarantees a bricks-and-mortar store in every state and mandatory collection of sales tax on every purchase.
- Mandatory sales tax
- Physical facility
- Sales staff
- Utilities
- Property tax
- Theft of inventory
- Cost of shipping inventory
- Cost of inventory (books)
