WASHINGTON (AP) -- Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, John Kasich and Chris Christie, the four Republican candidates in a showdown for their party's traditional supporters, closed last year with roughly as much money in the bank combined as Ted Cruz, the conservative insurgent they hope to topple.
And then there's Donald Trump, a celebrity businessman who has just begun to flex his billion-dollar bank account, lending his campaign $10.8 million from his personal wealth late last year.
The Republican candidates seeking to challenge Trump and Cruz at the top of the field were in varying degrees of financial distress at the end of 2015, fundraising reports filed Sunday night show, with Rubio in the best position to move forward. As the calendar flipped to 2016, the foursome had a combined $21.6 million left in the bank, while Cruz had almost $18.7 million at his disposal.
With voting beginning Monday in Iowa, and continuing next week in New Hampshire, Rubio, Bush, Kasich and Christie were running low on time - as well as money - in their efforts to rise. Should one or more of them continue on after New Hampshire, they'll face a cost-intensive primary calendar that demands travel among some two dozen states and advertising in some of the country's priciest media markets before March 15.

Didn't he finish the Summer of 2015 with over $100million in hard money?
No that was Jeb Bush
Am I the only one getting sick and tired of the non-stop "Rubio" surge talk on Fox News? Since the debate they keep hammering this line on every show. There is absolutely no evidence of it, the last two polls over the weekend show Rubio unchanged, yet every Fox analyst keeps claiming that Rubio is surging and claiming all these people on the street keep telling them they are switching from Trump and Cruz to Rubio. Then they bring out the Frank Luntz team of paid actors to nod like puppets and agree...
No one had $100M in hats money. Bush had that much in soft money.
did he get it from his billionaire friends or the gop
Not watching FOX since Kelly showed how disgusting she was.
It does not surprise me they are talking about Rubio, they want open borders etc, plus after tonight and he comes third they will declare him the winner
Well technically Donald Trump has $10 billion in hard money (or whatever his net worth is). Since it his personal fortune he has no restriction whatsoever on how he spends it, giving him far more discretion and leverage than any other candidate. The question is how much does he have easy access to (not tied up in Real Estate or long term investments) and how much would he be willing to spend?
Trump has 10 billion.
They've already started, Charles Krauthammer said that Marco Rubio doesn't need to win, as long as he hits 20% he will the "surging" candidate everybody is talking about tomorrow.
So that’s where the GOPe cash went.
Nothing confirmed but supposedly the buy in was 100,000.
The Donor class begged the Kochs to dropped their pledge not to donate any of the 400 Million until after the primary and gave them a list of Cruz ( which I know is a lie) , Rubio , Paul ( another lie) and Jeb Bush.
I assume it's BS .
Carl Icahn already said he would give a Trump pac if he wanted 150 Million and more if needed.
That is probably scaring a lot money away from getting in
I should go into the reading the future business.
Thanks for the info.
Yeah, and I’m getting sick of all the threads about how much money the candidates have. Bush had the most and the moron is a failure. So who cares?
Trump has 10 billion.
*********
That isn’t necessarily liquid cash he can tap immediatelly.
But could be collateral for some quick cash.
Like to tell me how much of that is into derivative based investments?
I don't watch Fox.
I watch CNN. Their disinterested coverage of the GOP race thus far has been outstanding.
That all changes after the Conventions, of course.
So all they are saying is that out of everybody other than Trump and Cruz, including the ones (most of them) under 5%, Rubio has the most $. Wow, how deep! It sounds like somebody desperate for good news for Rubio tried really hard to find some to “report” on.
Another way of saying it would be that Rubio, who is in 3rd place, is also 3rd place in terms of money! Does that deserve a freaking article?
Rubio has more money than Trump. Are you visiting from a parallel universe?
Neither I or the article said that. You misunderstood something.
