The seemingly endless presidential campaign finally gets real Monday, with Iowa voters heading to the polls for the state's caucuses.
The candidates blitzed the Hawkeye State in a final push Sunday, making public demonstrations of their faith and getting in their last jabs.
Both the Republican and Democratic races are considered up for grabs, with the winners certain to get a burst of momentum.
In a show of solidarity with the evangelical Christians who dominate the GOP caucuses, Donald Trump began the day at a nondenominational church in Council Bluffs with his wife, Melania.
Melania Trump took Communion from a silver tray, but Trump thought it was a collection plate and reached into his pocket to donate before realizing his mistake.
"I thought it was for offering," he said later with a laugh.

I dont doubt that this could happen but I dont think it did. Uber rich dude made to be looking like he is obliviously pandering by goofing up the sacraments but no specifics?

My, how this election is really separating the wheat from the chaff.
I have been to a few church services that were foreign to me and I was clueless.
I could see myself doing this.
We use a velvet bag with nice wooden handles. Wonderfully silent. 😊
A true conservative like Trump instinctively reaches into his pocket, since charity is second nature with him.

In an Orthodox Church, there is NO mistaking Communion for anything else! It is the culmination of the entire Liturgy!!!! And if you’re not Orthodox in good standing, you do not receive it.
In both of my Orthodox parishes, we use baskets for collection. In one parish, the baskets come around just before the Lord’s Prayer, and in the other they come around after the entire Liturgy is over. There is no mistaking the collection for anything else, either.
I think that in Presbyterian churches — his church — people go forward to receive communion. Probably this church passes it through the pews, as ours does. No big deal.
How’s that compare with Obama helping Iran with their nuclear weapons program?
My father - The head deacon - was tapped for scripture reading unexpectedly one Sunday. The scripture that morning was from 1st Corinthians

He misread the word “Immortality” as “Immorality”
If he can do that then I can easily imagine a a nominal church goer making the mistake in the article.
Reminds me of the scene in Coming to America where Arsenio drops the chicken bone in the collection plate. LOL I love that movie.
