Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is defending a campaign mailer that Iowa's secretary of state says misrepresents election law.
The mailer bills itself as a "voting violation" notice and tells the recipient it's been sent due to "low expected voter turnout in your area." It then grades the recipient's voting history and that of several neighbors, citing public records.
Cruz told reporters in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday that the mailing is "routine."
He says he won't apologize

I am a Cruz supporter...but I can say without any excuse or preamble that this was a big mistake by Cruz.
People will see and feel “big brother,” all over it...they very thing Cruz is campaigning against.
In addition, it will offend, and then anger them, and they will most likely (if they vote at all), go out and vote against whomever sent such a correspondence.
Cruz has some knuckleheads working for him...or agents working against him.
Does not matter...he himself should have seen how crazy this was and either stopped it...or if he did not find out until later...he should have apologized and fired the people who were responsible.
This will hurt him, particularly in Iowa, but also wherever people hear of it...and you can bet the competition will trumpet it far and wide.
Wow, desperation stinks!
In an age where people are rightfully concerned about privacy, this is a big deal.
He used 8 stamps each for those? No wonder Heidi is begging for money.
Some days you cannot tell whether their detractors are mocking the Cruzers or the Cruzers are mocking their detractors mocking the Cruzers. It really has become and Through the Looking Glass world.
Ted had $19 million cash on hand at the end of 2015.
Probably burned it all in Iowa this month.
After his defeat tomorrow money will stop coming in.
His days are numbered.
Why?
It appears to me that Cruz was trying to point out that your vote will be a matter of public record in Iowa. The notice looked like it was official and from the state. Cruz thinks he knows all and he can do as he pleases. He had a reason. We shall find it out.
You forgot that he planned the attack on Pearl Harbor, gave John Wilks Booth at ticket to backstage, and plunged thempilum into Christ’s side.
Come on, please be comprehensive! Don’t forget, he caused the extiction of the dinosaurs!
In an age where people are rightfully concerned about privacy, this is a big deal.
Voting history is public information by law. Who you voted for is not known. So you think that voting history should be expunged? That would make all the dead voters in Chicago real happy forever.
This is very stupid in its attempt to be coercive.
It should pi$$ off the principled voters Ted says he is trying to attract. It is supposed to “herd” the stupid to the polls, but it will enrage anyone else as a violation of privacy.
Helicondelta and McGruff, two Putin butt kissing peas in a pod. I’d bet you creeps can’t wait for the restoration of the Russian empire.
I’m wondering if we are getting the whole story here. Something does not seem right here.
Nothing I stated was false.
I was about to suggest that the VKs put themselves on stand-by for another spectacular crack-up when I see you beat me to it.
Cruz is a dead man walking. He knows it. He’s that smart.
Seems to me the fact that you voted would be a matter of public record, not who you voted for. So I guess old folks and dim bulbs would go to the caucus more than they would have? It’s still scummy, and I don’t understand a higher turnout helping Cruz here.
