Emails released by the State Department on Friday show that in 2011, then-Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry sent then-Sec. of State Hillary Clinton an email from his iPad that has been deemed to contain information classified as “Secret.â€
While previous releases of Clinton’s emails have shown that she and her staff communicated directly with Kerry when he was a senator, the new email is the first from Kerry that the State Department has determined contains sensitive information.
Kerry has largely been silent throughout the Clinton email controversy. He has sent letters asking the State Department’s inspector general to review the agency’s records keeping practices, but he has not publicly criticized Clinton for exclusively using a personal email account and a home-brew email server.
Perhaps now we know why.

The US SoS has to communicate with lots of people. They, she and those others, need to discuss much that is highly classified. It’s in the nature of the job. Since Clinton as SoS was only reachable through clintonemail.com it stands to reason that everyone who had to communicate classified material to the SoS had to do so through the unsecured clintonemail.com server. I would expect that there are hundreds of instances like this and that there are many in Washington sweating bullets about revelations yet to come regarding their violations of national security laws.

If you are elected to a high office in the US, IMHO you should not be allowed to have any secret communications that are not accessible to archiving and oversight. None. Most of us, I believe, have probably thought that the idea of doing something subversive in office is protected against by the oversight of patriots in our intelligence agencies. We now know that this probably isn’t true, and it appears more than possible to have a ‘shadow’ government within our own, operating outside of the confines of oversight. That is of major, major concern.
The sanctity of our system is predicated very much on built in checks and balances. When you decide to ‘serve’ the US in any capacity that allows you to do harm as well as good, it should be definitively accepted that you are concomitantly giving up your right to the type of privacy we should have as individual private citizens. Ironically, it seems that private citizens now have fewer rights to privacy than do those who have higher order access to our nations secrets. That’s very disturbing.
I’m not saying that those serving in office or working for government don’t have a right to a private life, or that anyone in the general public should be made privy to the details of their personal lives. I am saying, however, that all government communication should be behind the most secure of firewalls, and should be archived for potential monitoring and oversight.
It’s a sticky issue, as we also have to protect against this information being used for extortion etc., and have to protect the ability to politically strategize without the political opposition having access to that information.
At any rate, having a private email account on which you communicate with others regarding any official government business is not acceptable, at any level. If Hillary skates on this it is a big step in a dangerous direction for the US.

What I want to know is how do some of these secret emails and messages coincide with any troop activity, such as a chinook laden with Navy seals.

That doesn’t explain why Clinton, a classifying authority, had Mills and other remove classifications before they gave them to Clinton to email. By the nature of the job it is incumbent of the SoS to recognize and protect classified material - she IS a classifying authority remember. It is also true that having such material - whether marked or no - is no excuse for not recognizing the materiel as sensitive and classified, like for instance (SAP) the Order of Battle in the event the US and Israel invaded Iran, or the disposition and IMAGES of North Korean missile batteries.
There is no excuse or justification, no matter how tortured, which exonerates or in any way mitigates her.
