Today I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the role of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law. Accusing citizens of Iowa of a "voting violation" based on Iowa Caucus participation, or lack thereof, is false representation of an official act. There is no such thing as an election violation related to frequency of voting. Any insinuation or statement to the contrary is wrong and I believe it is not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa Caucuses.
Additionally, the Iowa Secretary of Stateâs Office never "grades" voters. Nor does the Secretary of State maintain records related to Iowa Caucus participation. Caucuses are organized and directed by the state political parties, not the Secretary of State, nor local elections officials. Also, the Iowa Secretary of State does not "distribute" voter records. They are available for purchase for political purposes only, under Iowa Code." - Paul D. Pate, Iowa Secretary of State

I think the Cruz mailer is horrible. He should be ashamed of it. I can’t vote for that. And I won’t vote for Trump. I’m going to look again at the other contenders. I don’t have to agree with a candidate 100%, but I would really like to trust a candidate not to be a jerk.
Why did he do it? He thought he could get away with it....he is a smarmy politician.
Cruz is too cute by half, which will give him half the votes Trump gets in Iowa. He’s done...it to himself.
I found a couple shockers regarding Trump and hope that you are not a typical Cruz supporter who for some reason won’t endure a post from a Trump supporter, period.
[If you are confused, so am I.]
Other Cruz suporters have chewed me out or ignored me for trying to help them do their freaking job ... vetting Trump [even though I support Trump, you know me all of these years — I always vet anyone].
The shockers ....
1. Cincinatusâ Wife claimed that Trump is a draft-dodger. Offered this link ...

Carry Okie is concerned that Trump might have mob ties ...

I take these with a grain of salt. But thought you might be interested.
And besides, we used to be FRiends. I hope we still are.
Both after the truth and pro-USA regardless of Trump/Cruz.
FRegards ....
I’ll care about your “sources” whine, when Trump supporters stop linking to Mother Jones, Salon, CNN and MSNBC.
There seem to be two Ted Cruzes walking around.
The Cruz in DC appears to be a statesman.
The Cruz on the Campaign Trail?
A liar who sacrifices his long term reputation again-and-again.
1. The Goldman Sachs Loan — ‘I liquidated my assets to run for senate.’
Very dramatic. But a lie.
2. ‘I currently have no insurance.’
Very dramatic speech some days back. But a lie.
3. Now this ... if it’s true that the mailer is misleading — and if he knew it — caught doing the same thing.
We expect some cute scheming from guys like Trump, such as filming ‘Mexican border crossers’ in Morocco. Cute — funny even. We also expect a few facts to be off, such as ‘thousands’ of muslims celebrating 9-11 in NJ when it might have been a ‘large mob’.
But 1 and 2 are not cuteness. They reveal a pattern of ugly deception.
With that in mind, I ask myself ...
1. Why did Jeff Sessions’ top aide go to work with Trump rather than Cruz?
2. Why did Palin turn her back on Cruz after campaigning with him before?
Sessions and Palin know Cruz better than we do. So I wonder.
Good grief!
You Cruz supporters ... I try to network you with each other to help vet Trump with one caveat — I’m skeptical.
And all I get is abuse.
Glad you posted the evidence.
Too bad the originator of this thread didn’t make it available at the start so we could actually SEE what the uproar is about.
I am a Cruz supporter...but I can say without any excuse or preamble that this was a big mistake by Cruz.
People will see and feel “big brother,” all over it...they very thing Cruz is campaigning against.
In addition, it will offend, and then anger them, and they will most likely (if they vote at all), go out and vote against whomever sent such a correspondence.
Cruz has some knuckleheads working for him...or agents working against him.
Does not matter...he himself should have seen how crazy this was and either stopped it...or if he did not find out until later...he should have apologized and fired the people who were responsible.
This will hurt him, particularly in Iowa, but also wherever people hear of it...and you can bet the competition will trumpet it far and wide.
[Carry Okie — thank you for your patience.]
Another way of putting it — I am cautiously curious.
A snippet or two? Make your points more convenient, and you become more persuasive.
I’m willing to go this far.
We have seen no proof that it was approved by the campaign. The one guy said he did it. Difference.
Need more than one guy saying he did it with purpose.
Post 472.
That is an interesting observation.
If this were a pattern of behavior of his staffers, you might have a point.
A one-off gaffe like this does not reflect on the enire campaign staff or Cruz.
Using the same standard you refer to: Admiral Poindexter misleading Col North (Iran-Contra) means Reagan was unable to manage his people. Clearly, this was not the case. There are many other cases where people are people and do not act responsibly and that is why people get fired.
Absent proof this was approved strategy by the campaign and not the actions of one guy, I will withhold judgement.
CW, it’s a sincere opening. Please take it. I don’t have time today.
I would agree if Cruz apologized or otherwise said the mailings was a mistake.
For right or wrong, every action during a campaign is scrutinized.
“For right or wrong, every action during a campaign is scrutinized.”
Especially after. . . .not so much beforehand (”going rouge”).
Wondering why Cruz has not said a thing, as far as I can see. Is it because he thinks it won’t reach critical mass until after the caucus, therefore, no need to bring it up?
Or is the campaign trying to figure out the proper response, given they, among all others—too include Sanders and Hillary—adopted Trumps never apologize and double-down strategy?
Curious.
“Absent proof this was approved strategy by the campaign and not the actions of one guy, I will withhold judgement.”
Regardless of who knew what when, Cruz has endorsed the mailer:

Post 476. . .already considered that aspect.
Cruz was on a Sunday talk show, admitted doing it but didn’t say it was wrong or anything.
I guess politicians never admit anything during campaigns - maybe all the time. They never admit they’ll lose either, even when at 2%!
