Grow Up! How can anyone be for this spoiled brat?
The American Spectator ^ | January 30, 2016 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 01/30/2016 12:54:47 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Of all the many things said about Donald Trump, what was said by Roger Ailes, head of the Fox News Channel, said it all in just two words: "Grow up!"

It is amazing how many people have been oblivious to this middle-aged man's spoiled brat behavior, his childish boastfulness about things he says he is going to do, and his petulant response to every criticism with ad hominem replies.

He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder. But is that something to boast about? Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true? Moreover, his cockiness is misplaced, because he still does not have a majority among Republican voters, while you need a majority of all the voters to win any state in the general election.

Trump has a showman's talent for telling people what they want to hear. But you can listen in vain for a coherent argument from him, based on facts and logic, much less an understanding of the inherent limitations of the office of president.

More than two centuries ago, Edmund Burke said: "Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state."

In other words, the personal character of the people to whom you entrust the powers of government matters even more than what kinds of government institutions there are. There have been some good kings and some bad presidents, as well as vice versa.

It is pure nonsense to think you are forcing others to pay for something, because you avoid taxes.

With that logic, why should others have to pay your tax bill?

Quit claiming all your deductions.

Some of you folks are amazing in your lust to go after Trump with hair-brained ideas.

Declare your deduction. It’s not evil.

The academically rooted chattering class always becomes unhinged when there's a danger someone will actually do something to solve problems the chattering class constantly ponder and discuss.

Well stated! Trump's characteristics aside, these good-pundits-bad-pundits all have the same livelihood. By their chattering they have their wealth.

Have they said anything new in the past, oh, 40 years?

Obama did that with IRS. Do you really believe Trump would do that?

Be sure to read the whole piece.

The issue that Trump raised about Ted Cruz s having been born in Canada is not the first time he has tried to challenge where someone was born. The Donald was among those who tried to say that Barack Obama was not born an American citizen, and who disgraced themselves, while undermining other critics of Obama who had serious objections to his policies.

I did.

I love Thomas Sowell, especially when he writes about education but Sowell shows his ignorance at times, too. This is one of them.

Thanks. No, to the best of my knowledge they haven't said anything new for at least that long although they have updated the way they say those same things with a few fashionable words and phrases from time to time.

I am getting a better understanding of the 1930s, and how men like FDR were embraced the way they were.

It’s your money.

You didn’t know that?

‘So called stalwarts of conservative thought and opinion revealed as nothing more than establishment staff writers.’

Well said.

Have you noticed how sound tracks can get lame in a movie? Sometimes a brilliant music editor is told to ‘hype up’ certain moments and resents it. Could be subconscious resistance.

“A million from a billionaire is akin to you and I reaching deep for $10 bucks.”

I know the Internet has said that a few times, but is it really $10? I’d say a million from a billion is 1/1000th, so for the average family it is like giving $1,000.

Trump has some Rush-like characteristics. Such as being unable/unwilling to speak from a prepared text. And confidence that he can confront Big Journalism and prosper.

Essentially Trump dismissed the debate; he was right to do so in that it was a setup targeting HIM. When Trump bowed out, that merely shifted the target to Cruz; Cruz might best have recognized - and articulated - that fact, and bowed out because HE no longer had anything to gain by being there.

A process which could have delegitimated the so-called debate format itself.

> “So you can’t refute my point, can you? “

You have no point.

Fox News lost revenue because they are stupid. They lost much more than they would have by giving Trump’s veterans $5 million.

Donald brings revenues to them because of the ratings he brings. He brings tens upon tens of millions of dollars in revenue to them and he wanted a cut for his vets if they insisted on playing games with his candidacy. They were stupid so he decided they get nothing.

Ailes will be gone along with Kelly within a year.

Cruz’ backers could have given to vets and let Ted take the high road. But they showed they are just as stupid. Ted brings nearly nothing to the table in terms of ratings. Ted claims none of the revenues, Donald does.

I need to move to your average family neighborhood!
Don’t know many in most places that make or even have $1million....... $1000 X 1000 = $1million.

My ten buck was just a metaphor. For an average family making $35k a year that would be $35.

My point remains.

He tried to force both networks to give him 5 million USD each, he got absolutely nothing. Not so powerful. Total fail.

In turn, another entity offered him 1.5 million USD in exchange for a debate, he brushed them off. He ended up leaving 1.5 million USD on the table that could have enriched his veteran’s causes.

If he was so serious about veteran’s causes, not only would he have a better record vis-a-vis his own charity’s donations towards veterans these past few years, he would have welcomed the opportunity for this debate to get another 1.5 million USD. For a cause that he says that he supports, he certainly left a lot of money on the table.

As far as ratings go, do you have a source for that? The ratings actually went up from the previous “debate” where Trump was actually present. IMO, there are too many debates and people are getting tired of them. The rating went up because viewers wanted to see what would happen when Trump wasn’t poisoning the well.

Seriously, do you want to see a Presidential election decided based on television ratings, a la Kardashian? Personally I believe TV views are pedestrian. I would rather see it decided based on the informed.

“...and I would ask, what could Mr. Trump do upon becoming President that would change your mind? I hardly think any of what he could do would somehow be worse than President Obama.”

Oh, no one could be as bad as Obama! I just think their are two many things in Trump’s background to overlook. He has said he was once more democrat than republican. He has said good things about the Clinton’s earlier and when Obama was first elected had some kind things to say about him. He was once pro-abortion even up until the third trimester! Talk about universal health care with the government paying for it! We have had one President with one hugh ego (Obama), just don’t want another one! Just a few years ago he was anti-gun! Now if a leopard were in Trumps shoes he would be able to change his spots, same for a zebra, he would be able to change his stripes! To me voting for Trump is like throwing the dice, and trying to get a 12!

It sure must be nice to live in such a sheltered world. I think these people are so secure in their own nests, they are filled with fear of losing their continued status quo.

My guess is the gated community dwellers do not leave their safe spaces.

Trump suggested Fox News play fair and donate to veterans. Fox News said no but ...

Trump GAVE to veterans.

Cruz’ backers suggested a 1-on-1 debate in return for donating to veterans. Trump never responded but ...

Cruz’ backers NEVER GAVE to veterans.

You have no point to make within those facts.

The veterans get taken care of by Trump; they get nothing from Cruz’ backers. Those are the hard facts you can’t dance around.
