Of all the many things said about Donald Trump, what was said by Roger Ailes, head of the Fox News Channel, said it all in just two words: "Grow up!"
It is amazing how many people have been oblivious to this middle-aged man's spoiled brat behavior, his childish boastfulness about things he says he is going to do, and his petulant response to every criticism with ad hominem replies.
He has boasted that his followers would stick by him even if he committed murder. But is that something to boast about? Is it not an insult to his followers, if it is true? Moreover, his cockiness is misplaced, because he still does not have a majority among Republican voters, while you need a majority of all the voters to win any state in the general election.
Trump has a showman's talent for telling people what they want to hear. But you can listen in vain for a coherent argument from him, based on facts and logic, much less an understanding of the inherent limitations of the office of president.
More than two centuries ago, Edmund Burke said: "Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state."
In other words, the personal character of the people to whom you entrust the powers of government matters even more than what kinds of government institutions there are. There have been some good kings and some bad presidents, as well as vice versa.

Seems to me that Trump put himself in a corner about the debate. What did he do? In less than 24 hours he put together an impressive event for Veterans that raised over $6 million that goes directly to small charities that will get the support to them. He did it in a way that gave credit to the power of his little folk donors, his wealthy donors, and his rivals who knew a worthwhile endeavor when they see one.
If that's not "grown up", maybe it's time the grown-ups get kicked out of DC!
Sowell thinks what FoxNews planned for Thursday night was reasoned, and Trump was wrong not to play along?
Is he aware that Ailes talked to Trump late Thursday afternoon and apologized, essentially begging Trump to take part in the debate?
Trump talked about it at his event, and complimented Ailes for being very nice to him that afternoon.
Some of these so-called thinkers have seemingly come unhinged.
Trump would have been a total idiot to play along with FoxNews subterfuge.
He’s not an idiot. Ailes and Kelly were.
And I guess now Sowell is too.
Be sure to read the whole piece.
It’s spot-on.
Thomas Sowell’s incredible brain seems to switch off whenever he thinks about Trump.
It reminds me of the Chief Inspector, that guy with the twitchy eye in the old Pink Panther movies.
Too late. They drank the kool aid,
Yep, less than 24 hours, the hall was filled, he got $4 million in donations, donated a million himself, and got over a million in personal donations.
The hall was filled and thousands were standing outside wanting to come in.
Trump has incredible magnetism.
Some folks are convinced all this is evidence of dumb people who are just fanboys.
They’re missing the boat.
E Tu Sowell
LOL, good one.

I’ve watched what has been spot on for you for almost eight months now.
‘Edmund Burke said: ‘Constitute government how you please, infinitely the greater part of it must depend upon the exercise of the powers which are left at large to the prudence and uprightness of ministers of state.’
Machiavelli said that in times of crisis republics turn to worthy, capable men and then abandon them when the crisis is averted.
A worthy, capable man doesn’t seem very meek or modest — not ideal politically when times are good.
He’s just one of the NRO parrots.
Another former conservative icon gone off the deep end over Trump. Too much time spent with elites in universities and think tanks. Not enough time spent with ordinary Americans. It’s sad.
Rush pointed out that Trump had endured six debates and conformed to the rules each time. To Rush, that seemed like a vindication of some kind.
I think Rush’s point diffuses the ‘spoiled brat’ line.
I hope President Trump will have some mercy on all these dorks and tweebs that have disdained and insulted him .
How about just stocks in the town squares ?

And I guess now Sowell is too.>>>> this is the communist tactic. say the lie like its the truth and the comment on it. sowell should know better. we are lost the thinkers on the right are gone. gone. gone.
While I have tremendous respect for Sowell, I’m disappointed that he reserved his sharp paternalism for Trump given the long list of juveniles he failed to recognize along the way.
Seems like Trump Derangement Syndrome can infect anyone at any level of intelligence.
Yes.
A consistent conservative.
