The personalized letters target individual Iowa voters and identifies them as having failed to vote in prior elections. They are admonished and then encouraged to vote this year. In addition the letters identify the neighbors of the voter, and provides their voting history.
The text reads:
"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses".
In an effort to shame the recipient, the notice also informs the targeted voter their neighbors have also been notified of the recipients poor voting record.

Two Texas farmers, Jim and Bob, are sitting at their favorite bar, drinking beer.
Jim turns to Bob and says, “You know, I’m tired of going through life without an education. Tomorrow I think I’ll go to the Community College and sign up for some classes.”
Bob thinks it’s a good idea, and the two leave. The next day, Jim goes down to the college and meets Dean of Admissions, who signs him up for the four basic classes: Math, English, History, and Logic.
“Logic?” Jim says. “What’s that?”
The dean says, “I’ll give you an example. Do you own a weed eater?”
“Yeah.” “Then logically speaking, because you own a weed eater, I think that you would have a yard.”
“That’s true, I do have a yard.”
“I’m not done,” the dean says. “Because you have a yard, I think logically that you would have a house.”
“Yes, I do have a house.”
“And because you have a house, I think that you might logically have a family.”
“Yes, I have a family.”
“I’m not done yet. Because you have a family, then logically you must have a wife. And because you have a wife, then logic tells me you must be a heterosexual.”
“I am a heterosexual. That’s amazing, you were able to find out all of that because I have a weed eater.”
Excited to take the class now, Jim shakes the Dean’s hand and leaves to go meet Bob at the bar. He tells Bob about his classes, how he is signed up for Math, English, History, and Logic.
“Logic?” Bob says, “What’s that?”
Jim says, “I’ll give you an example. Do you have a weed eater?”
“No.”
“Then you’re a queer... “

And now “Morning Joe” is on the case.
Joe Scarborough ââ¬Â@JoeNBC 48s48 seconds ago An ugly way to end a campaign. Hope & Shame? http://www.redstate.com/2016/01/30/cruz-campaign-mailers-shame-voters/ ââ¬Â¦
That’s John King, Drudge, Joe Scarborough... the piling on begins. Anyone else still think this isn’t a big deal?
I’m Back up from working down in the barn all day. Ain’t politics more fun than soccer? You know tontokowalski, you probably saw it earlier today how the Iowa Sec of State didn’t think to highly of the mailer either. Cruz Campaign pulled a boner on this. As as a Trump supporter I am blaming the campaign gurus like Jeff Roe and other wiz kids. I am not blaming Ted Cruz. But unfortunately, the optics on this will reflect badly upon him. Too bad.
tonto, wasn’t such fun last night into the wee hours on this thread? Can’t wait till tonight to see if jedijones comes back to play after feeding the cats. I am certain by now he has looked up everyones information that replied to this thread and has everything graphed out on his spreadsheet.

There isn’t a marketer on this planet that doesn’t know more about you than you would believe... folks don’t understand how technology has made all this scattered information available to folks in seconds...
People enjoy their blissful ignorance about how much folks they will never meet know about them...This letter just unsettles folks by reminding them of something they’d rather ignore... it’s not going to help Cruz, but nothing about it is private.

Itâs merely a mailer encouraging participation on Caucus Dayâthereâs not any threat of government force behind it. If you donât like it, you can throw it in the trash.
Do you guys understand how the Iowa Republican Caucuses operate? You see your neighbors, and they see you. Your Republicans neighbors will probably ânoticeâ whether or not you showed up at the local Republican Caucus. Itâs not a private voting booth like in the general election, or a primary in most states.
Seriously, when Publisherâs Clearing House sends you a mailer marked âURGENT!â and they inform you this is your last final shot to send in your forms to potentially claim your prize, do you freak out and head for the liquor cabinet? Or do you smile, shred it, and then put it in the trash?
But whatâs more âupsettingââwhat Obama has done, what ISIS is doing, and what Hillary wants to doâor receiving an over-the-top persuasive mailer encouraging you to attend your Caucus on Monday night?

I stopped listening to Levin due to his continued Cruz rumpswabbery. I may just tune in again on Monday to hear ‘The Great One’ explain this one away.

Speaking of doing and being....while Trump is out there BEING his egomaniacal self, telling everyone what they want to hear, getting the crowd riled up for things he only claims heâll do....Ted Cruz has aldready(sic) been DOING things that show what a Conservative is.Other than your obvious keyboard problem. lol
Name one Conservative thing Cruz is doing or has done?

You were right.
“Mr. Cruz said he would “apologize to nobody for using every tool we can to encourage Iowa voters to come out and vote.”
OK. I’m an idiot. Please disregard the benefit of a doubt that I gave to Ted Cruz.

but I purposely upped my power usage in retaliation. ROFL! I say good for you! ComEd did that same crap here in Illinois and I received a few of those "you use more power than your neighbors" do letters too. I use a whopping $3-$4 and they're trying to "shame" me into reducing my power usage???
I'm a ham radio guy. I use my full legal-limit+ amplifier A LOT MORE now than I ever did.
Screw 'em! Make more power you bastards!

A little guy is sitting at the bar just staring at his drink for half an hour when this big trouble-making biker steps next to him, grabs his drink and gulps it down in one swig.
The poor little guy starts crying.
‘Come on man. I was just giving you a hard time,’ the biker says. ‘I didn’t think you’d CRY.’ ‘I can’t stand to see a man crying.’
‘This is the worst day of my life,’ says the little guy between sobs.
‘I can’t do anything right.’ ‘I overslept and was late to an important meeting, so my boss fired me.
When I went to the parking lot, I found my car was stolen and I don’t have any insurance.
I left my wallet in the cab I took home.
I found my wife in bed with the gardener and my dog bit me.
So I came to this bar trying to work up the courage to put an end to my life, and then you show up and drink the damn poison.’

And to go on, as if Cruz is the biggest threat to our nation, as you do, is delusional and completely out of touch with reality. Unless of course youâre projecting, because realistically, this entire country, is heading toward disaster if someone of Trumps ilk gets in. You think we have it bad now....just wait until a 2nd egomaniacal narcissist gets in and starts running the show, the way Trump claims heâs going to. Will you move to Lower Slobbovia when President Trump takes office a year from now?
You should fit right in if you like snow and can eat raw polar bear. If not, the polar bears would probably like you anyway.

I am perhaps the most loyal Ted Cruz supporter at Free Republic ...
I am an official Florida campaigner for Ted Cruz in Florida ...
and this VOTER SHAME FLYER is FREAKING INSULTING and STUPID beyond imagination !!!
Without a doubt, Ted Cruz signed-off on the decision to do this ...
and if Ted Cruz has one-half a brain HE WOULD APOLOGIZE ... tonight.
Unfortunately, I have received fund-raising e-mail solicitations from Ted Cruz with the same shaming philosophy ...
and I DELETED every damn one of them.
Talk about snatching Defeat from the Jaws of Victory !!!!
