You may well be right. The autopsy report of the medical examiner or coroner would at least indicate where any and all gunshots entered his body. They likely cannot draw a precise bead on what came first chronologically between any wound and any reach by the deceased.

Those flashes are aperture changes in the camera.

Oh that sounds familiar. Isn't what they said about the overhead IFR footage of the two Deltas firing into the Mt Carmel compound? That it was "light reflections" and not 600 rpm from automatic weapons? You guys never change your tune, do you?

Hear! Hear! As ever. Given the presence of the girl in the car, it makes sense to protect her by diverting attention from the car, especially if the police had opened fire before he got out of the car. It may well turn out that this case proves that ALL lives matter.

Bob434:

So far it does not look like your quite reasonable question will be answered by Moonman62, but it will be answered in court.

Thank you for your impassioned plea for justice, in the correct sense of the word.

I would only like to point out to anyone that might not have heard the FBI spokesman say it, that Finicum “was found” to have a loaded 9MM handgun “in his left pocket” and that he “appeared” to make motions that looked like he “may have been” reaching toward the left pocket (my paraphrasing, not actual quotes). That means that the gun was NOT in sight and they didn’t know about it until after they searched his body, right?

So, explain again, Mr. Spokesman (and certain other posters), why was he shot?

Would being shot BEFORE you drop your arms be a “legitimate” reason?

Moonman62:

The SCOTUS (not that they are the be all and end all, see Roe vs. Wade, "gay""marriage", Kelo, the Dred Scott decision which triggered the Civil War and nearly 700 thousand deaths of Americans, Plessy vs. Ferguson and a rich and sad anthology of other SCOTUS blunders starting in the time of John Marshall as CJ)), even the SCOTUS, has ruled repeatedly that the police MUST have an articulable reason for ANY motor vehicle stop and that would not include that they have heard vague rumors that SOME drivers drink and drive, there are bars nearby and it is closing time and, "hey, that guy is driving a car! Let's stop him." Or, if he doesn't immediately knuckle under to government Almighty, let's shoot him.

I see and hear Banjoboy from Deliverance in the background.

"We're talking about the shooting here, not what happened days or weeks ago at some other venue."

Why not? Mr. Finicum was a leader of a group of armed individuals who, per the Feds, committed at least one major Felony. That's all it takes.

"Btw, at the other venue a few days ago, the leader of this movement not only met with, peacefully discussed what they were doing, joked with the feds and shook their hands."

Is that something mass murdering dangerous criminal terrorist would do?"

In Mr. Finicum's case, no. The Feds, quite likely.

Do you think Mr.Finicum might have been a little miffed when he realized he'd been double-crossed and set up by the Feds?

"How many rounds did the occupants of the truck fire, as opposed to the LEOs? I'm betting none, zero."

If you knew someone (Finicum) was reaching for a weapon to possibly shoot you with, how many rounds would you let him get off before shooting back?

The potential of truly competent investigation means it is not too late. The question is in the integrity of investigations, public AND private.

Nobody seems concerned that the roadblock had to be placed long before the first traffic stop. It also had to be planned with the gunman in the woods. There was a guy with a video camera in the roadblock. Let’s see THAT video in its entirety with sound.

A quite disturbing and plausible explanation AND if the man was already tasered, why was he then shot???? There seems to be no good excuse. If true, the trooper should make no vacation plans for what remains of his life.

This is madness. The wives and children of police and agents bear no responsibility whatsoever for any misbehavior of the police or agents. Rhetoric is getting out of hand.

BTW, worst case scenario in this incident: No wife or child of any of the protesters was physically harmed in the slightest. It is shameful to suggest retaliation against the family members of LEOs. One cannot even claim like a six-year-old: he did it first!

Diversion again: “If you knew someone (Finicum) was reaching for a weapon to possibly shoot you with, how many rounds would you let him get off before shooting back?”

That’s cute. But you missed the placement of the word ‘possibly ‘ — it should have been before the word ‘reaching’, not ‘shoot’. Big difference.

Answer me this, Mr. Wizard: How many times would you shoot a person who was reaching for a cellphone, or a Chapstick, or anything else that YOU COULDN’T SEE? But wait, you knew he had a gun because you found it AFTER you shot him dead, so that seals it, right?

"Diversion, again: "had no idea what kind of firepower the people in those vehicles had".

It most certainly did. They were suspects in an armed Felony.

"If they had fully automatic machine guns and RPGs in the trunk, would that be sufficient?"

Certainly. So would the 9mm pistol Mr. Finicum was thought/known to be carrying.

"Absent a CREDIBLE threat to LEO life by the driver or passengers - and jumping in front of a vehicle to shoot at it doesn't count, sorry - there is no justification for the homicide, is there? Finicum didn't try to ram the LEO's, he clearly tried to avoid impact."

It happens all the time. Driver tries to blow around the cops, one of them gets in front of him. If driver doesn't stop and cop has to jump out of the way, it's assault with a deadly weapon. It most certainly does count because they're the legal authorities.

"Trying to demonize citizens for lawfully carrying or transporting firearms - when they were NOT used to threaten someone's safety - is a diversion."

Carrying a firearm during the commission of a Felony. I was on a Grand Jury once and we indicted more than one person on that. All of it traces back to their having occupied the Refuge while armed. And if they solicited armed people to come "defend" them, it could possibly be construed as incitement or insurrection.

I'm not saying I agree with it, just that that's the way the Feds are looking at it. The ones they choose to prosecute could be looking at a laundry list of serious charges.

If the peaceable measures don’t work, then you’ll have to think of something better. But you can’t have it both ways, so be prepared for the consequences.

And good luck!

Which hand do you believe was reaching for the shoulder holster on his left side. His other holster is said to have been at the waist on his right. The placement of the holsters suggest a right-handed shooter. I have no special knowledge. You seem not to be jumping to conclusions but to be relying, as you and all of us should, on actual evidence. What did you see?

“Well since you’re a fed and work for the propaganda arm, I guess we have to just believe you. Even if it’s all lies. “

You don’t have to believe me about anything. I’m just calling it the way I see it: Bad plan. Bad tactics. Dead good guy. Now lots of people are probably going to jail for a long time, the Feds win, nothing changes and they’ve got more propaganda to use against us.

If we get Cruz or Trump elected, there’s some hope. If Hillary, The Bern, Biden, Warren, et al, get in, then it’s gonna get worse.
