(CNN)A high-speed getaway attempt and a reach for the waistband are said to have prompted police SWAT team members to open fire on a group of leaders of the Oregon armed occupiers.
A law enforcement official described the dramatic showdown that occurred Tuesday night on a desolate stretch of U.S. 395, some distance away from the federal wildlife refuge where the group took over federal buildings nearly a month ago.
FBI and Oregon State Police at a command center in Burns were monitoring the group when they departed the refuge to attend a town hall meeting with local residents in the town of John Day.

Where is the video?
In the editing room.
Frankly, if the video is held by the FBI, I don’t believe a a damned word of that they say. Just like that tank breaching the BD compound at Waco and depositing a harmless smoke grenade that eventually killed 82 people, 22 of them children, ‘accidentally’.
Show me a goddam video or shut the f@ck up.
Ping
He had a clear intention to be shot by the cops. Not sure what could be surprising about the fact that it happened.

First its a routine traffic stop then its SWAT.
A high-speed getaway attempt and a reach for the waistband

Tactics recently developed and perfected (and ‘accepted’ by the media) by LE at various locations across the US.
The FBI is still yet to suffer retribution for the Lon Horiuchi murder of Vicki Weaver.
You can’t edit something like that. The question is whether he was a threat to them.
The FBI can stop “considering” releasing the film of the shooting and just release it. Surely it can only help their case.
PP ‘edited’ their tapes.
Just learning from the ‘experts’.

hummm, let’s see, so he was reaching for his waistband while attempting a high speed getaway?
yeah i’d like to see that. release the video.
And....
"He had a clear intention to be shot by the cops. Not sure what could be surprising about the fact that it happened."
Easily the best demonstration of a poster's screen name in a long time.
It would be too difficult to turn “on his knees with his hands up” into “charging the police”.
Exactly
The article also states, “But Finicum, with police in hot pursuit, attempted to leave the main road and drove into a snow bank. When he emerged from the vehicle, FBI and state police ordered him to surrender. That’s when, authorities say, Finicum reached down toward his waistband where he had a gun.
The SWAT team opened fire. Finicum was killed. Ryan Bundy suffered a light wound on his arm.”
This lends credibility to the story as told by Victoria Sharp who was in the vehicle. Except that she says LaVoy wasn’t armed, did not reach for a gun and had his hands in the air. She did say he drove into a snowbank.
Curious as to why they felt they could leave the refuge and run into town for a town hall meeting without being stopped and detained. Were promises made (and not kept) by law enforcement?
The article quotes officials as saying the car speed away “out of sight” where the vehicle left the road due to a roadblock. That sure puts Mark McConnell’s version of the events on shaky ground now doesn’t it.
thx for the info, kathy.
Yeah.
If we get to see the video.
Equipment failure?
Unreleasable evidence related to the case?
Some other excuse the ‘American People’ will blindly accept?
