Murdoch urges Bloomberg to Run Amid Trump Debate Boycott
The Hill ^ | 1/27/16 | Neetzan Zimmerman

Rupert Murdoch broke his three-day Twitter silence Wednesday morning to urge former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to join the 2016 White House race amid an ongoing feud with Republican front-runner — and fellow New York billionaire — Donald Trump.

"This is Bloomberg's last chance,” Murdoch tweeted. "You never know until your hat is in the ring!”

"Events change everything,” the News Corp. boss added, cryptically, "especially during elections.”

Murdoch’s Fox News is currently engaged in a rapidly escalating war of words with Trump, who has vowed to skip Thursday night’s Republican debate, which is being hosted by the network.

The real estate mogul floated the boycott earlier this week over concerns that Fox News star and debate co-moderator Megyn Kelly would be “unfair” to him, prompting Fox to issue a statement ridiculing Trump’s comments.

Interesting. Bloomberg getting into the race is one thing that could give us a GOP president other than Donald even if Donald is the GOP candidate.

Since Bloomberg is so liberal, he might actually have a shot at winning a few northeastern states - not enough to win the presidency, but enough to prevent either Hillary or Donald (if he is the nominee) from getting to 270 electoral votes. If that happens the election goes to the House, where each state delegation gets 1 vote, with an absolute majority (26 votes) required to elect the president.

Now there are something like 36 states that have majority GOP delegations, about 12 states with majority Dem delegations, and the rest are tied. So you would think the GOP candidate would win easily. But if Trump is the nominee, I can see a scenario where enough state delegations vote for Bloomberg to keep Trump from getting to 26 votes, so that no candidate gets a majority. If that happens, the person who was elected vice-president (assuming their election is confirmed by the Senate) would become president.

So in that scenario, if Donald was the nominee whomever he had selected as VP could become president instead.

Hmmm... depending upon who the VP nominee was, it might be enough to make me vote for Bloomberg...

I think American politics has been a urination contest between billionaires for some time but we just didn’t know it.

Odd. I read last night on FreeRepublic how Murdoch would fire the folks at Fox News for bungling things.

As for encouraging Mr Regulation Nanny to run - that would be NYC values on display!

Exactly. I know people want, think we should have debates. But you get so little out of them.

I’m not sure why Trump supporters are so opposed to Bloomberg. He’s a much more successful businessman than Donald (by a factor of 4 at least); he has the “New York Values” that Trump supporters so vociferously defend; he could definitely attract Dem and independent voters, which is one of the things Trump supporters like about Donald; he “can win” states like NY, NJ, CT, MA; and he is jut about as likely to actually deport 11 million immigrants as Donald is. And Bloomberg not only has business experience, but he has actually been “successful” as a politician. What’s not to like?

A question for all candidates:

These non-essential government employees are UNIONIZED, thanks to JFK.....I believe this is a conflict of interest since their salaries are dependent on the taxpayer.....these N-EGEs will fight tooth and nail to continue wasting your $$$$.

Bloomberg should run. He will take votes form the Democrats and waste his money. This would assure a Republican victory and he would have less money for his socialist agenda.

Yeah, take a look at the Gretawire “Poll!” 83% say that they are not going to watch the Fox Debate. Then go to the comments section and read the vitriol against Fox, Ailes, Kelly and Murdoch. If I were all of them, I’d be hiring a food taster, a body guard, and someone to start my car!

I agree with you - and for that reason I almost hope that he gets into the race, as he will doom Hillary (or Bernie, should Hillary stroke out or Obama decide to get rid of her by allowing an indictment).
