MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he will not attend a debate scheduled for Thursday night in Des Moines, an unexpected twist just days before voters here launch the election process.
"I probably won't be doing the debate. I'm going to have something else in Iowa," he said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
After the press conference, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed to The Washington Post that Trump would "definitely not" participate in Thursday's Fox News debate.
"He's definitely not participating in the Fox News debate," Lewandowski said. "His word is his bond."
He said Trump would remain in Iowa as planned and would instead host an event in the state to raise money for wounded warriors and other veterans groups.
Trump has made such threats before, but he said that the Fox News Channel, which is hosting the debate Thursday night, had gone too far by issuing press statements on Tuesday that he said mocked his concern about Megyn Kelly, one of the debate co-moderators.
"They're dealing with someone who's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he added.
When Trump saw the press release from Fox, "I said, 'Bye bye,'" he said.
Trump said his event on Thursday will benefit military veterans and service members wounded in war.

Brave Sir Robin ran away.
Bravely ran away, away!
When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out.
Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
The poster you originally admonished as being liberal was taking a shot at Trump, not you. Maybe you should take a breath, go back in this thread and figure out where you screwed up?
Give me a break....he has done 6 debates so far and, according to all the polls, won all 6. He has the balls to debate anywhere at anytime but Fox blew this with a ridiculous press release that ridiculed Donald. Did you read it?
Oh please. There's no upside for Trump. He's ahead in every poll. Everyone there will be attacking him. And for that pleasure he'll be giving Fox huge ratings.
I love it that he's not a puppet and not beholden to the politics of the past.
That would be too cool.
My mistake. Cheers.
Thanks. I’m not really out of breath, though, just disappointed.
Is it true that Cruz voted against the bill that included the amendment he wrote to get the medals and benefits for Fort Hood. I have read Cruz was one of 6 who voted against the National Defense Authorization Act of 2015.
Seems strange.
Of course Fox airs Tony Perkins and his endorsement of Cruz. Tell me that Kelly is fair and balanced. Today Falwell jr. endorsed Trump but she leads with a lightweight, Perkins.
You realize the “press release” was a response to a Trump video where Trump was whining about the treatment he has gotten from Fox News and suggesting he would conduct a Twitter poll to see if his supporters feel he should participate in the debate. This is all a case of faux outrage on Trump’s part.
Cruz wrote the legislation that gave the Ft. Hood victims Purple Hearts. It passed 99-0.
FReegards!
Hopefully kids you see right through the Fox propaganda. It’s a never ending troll 24/7.
Trump REALLY knows how to keep the spotlight on himself. Heâll get FAR more publicity blowing this debate off than attending yet another BS debate. After the debate, all anyone will be talking about is Trump not being in the debate, whether it affected the debate, etc., etc.
Will be FASCINATING to see if the ratings drop from the last debate. Too many debates anyway and debate-fatigue is setting in too.

No, I didn’t realize that. Thanks for posting.

Hey I thought everyone on here was with him even if he shoots people or maybe passes blanket amnesty when he gets elected....
This just makes me question his motives even more...
Fair enough. Carry on then! :)
This is Trump’s Ross Perot moment.
It’s sad that so many don’t understand that it’s a matter of principle, not fear of a blonde bimbo.
