Rick Perry endorses Ted Cruz
Politico ^ | January 25, 2016 | Katie Glueck

Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry is endorsing Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary, Perry told POLITICO in an interview Sunday night.

Perry, who also sought the GOP nomination before dropping out in September, said he now sees the race as one that is between Cruz, a fellow Texan, and Donald Trump. Through phone calls and during a December day spent driving around his Round Top, Texas, home in his truck with Cruz, Perry said he found the senator to be a good listener who respects the Tenth Amendment, "knows what he does not know" and is more conservative than Trump.

"Of those individuals who have a chance to win the Republican primary, at this juncture, from my perspective, Ted Cruz is by far the most consistent conservative in that crowd," Perry said. "And that appears to be down to two people."

Perry, who is famously skilled at retail politics, will campaign with Cruz Tuesday across Iowa, and will join Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King to stump for Cruz again Wednesday. Perry and King will both join Cruz at a Des Moines rally Wednesday night.

The endorsement gives Cruz the blessing of the longest-serving governor in Texas history, just as the senator faces intensifying heat from other veteran politicians, including from his colleagues in Washington, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole.

“With the exception of 2000 they have avoided making decisions that would change elections”

If the USSC had refused to hear Bush v. Gore, as they should have, there is no possibility that Bush would not have been elected in a proper, constitutional way.

It cracks me up that there are “conservatives” who would concede the authority that the USSC claimed in that case, rather than simply following the constitution.

That is a wonderful testimony of Rick Perry and especially of Ted Cruz who has the ability to what is right and win. He does not need any flamboyant stage performance in his campaign.

Citizens of the United States have never elected a foreign born President. There were questions about Chester Arthur at one point, but he always claimed Vermont as his birthplace and he destroyed all personal documents before his death.

Ted Cruz would be the first, admitted foreign born candidate.

I’ve liked Rick Perry for some time now.

It’s too bad his candidacy fizzled. It used to be that we preferred Governors over Senators, much less businessmen, because they had executive experience in government. After all, the President is the chief executive of the national government.

I see Rick Perry as a sensible, conservative American. He is not liberal enough to get favorable media from the national media; he’s no John McCain or Lindsey Graham. He is not enough of a fire-brand to excite the base. He would probably make a better President than candidate.

His endorsement should carry some weight (but may not).

Trump would not have even raised this issue if Cruz hadn’t started rising in the polls.

It is irrational to even spend time talking about a candidate who is foreign born, until they rise in the polls.

After all, As of January 13, 2016, a total of 1,491 candidates had filed a Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission.

Now hold on Pilgrim! Didn’t say what I believed or what I wanted. Was simply stating facts. But since you mentioned it, I believe there are a multitude of matters that the Supreme Court should not have intervened in. I am, however, fully convinced that “Bush vs. Gore” was one in which there had to make a decision. As a conservative I believe that we have some disagreements among ourselves but shouldn’t constantly demanding that everyone agree with me on every detail!

Not to rain on your parade or anything, but Perry was only a conservative when it was time to run for office. His endorsement is either a bad thing, or meaningless.

Nice try. But Trump publicly stated that he believed Cruz was qualified to run for president and that he came to that conclusion after consulting his “best in the world” lawyers.

Perry would have done Cruz a better turn by keeping his mouth shut, what with his (Perry’s) spotty past (yes, I’m aware that it was politically motivated, but your run-of-mill voter isn’t) and RINO track-record...And anyway, it’s not like there are many people sitting around thinking, “hmm, I need to wait and see who Rick Perry endorses.”
