Last night, National Review published articles from twenty conservative intellectuals âAgainst Trump.â This afternoon, publisher Jack Fowler sent this letter to friends of the magazine:
Dear Friend,
Today is a big day for National Review. Our editors have made a very forceful defense of conservatism, of principle, and against the politics of attitude, in our editorial, Against Trump.
We have received angry calls, and cancel Âmy subscription demands. One in particular broke my heart. Well, letâs hope time heals.
None of this was unexpected.
But: We have also received very strong expressions of support from many NR friends. People who believe ÂÂ and they are right to believe this ÂÂ that the main reason National Review exists is to do the very thing it is doing today.
Defending conservative principle. Defending it from being marginalized, or recast as emotion and bluster instead of as an expression of reason and intelligence.
On behalf of Rich Lowry and my colleagues, thank you for standing with us. Or, better, thanks for letting us stand alongside you as we embrace the Buckley mission: To stand athwart history, yelling stop.
Best,
Jack Fowler

How can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again.
Dear NR:
Enjoy your martyrdom. I look forward to the bankruptcy auction.
Hugs, RD
They did a similar thing to Newt Gingrich and supported Romney. Inside of the insiders. The seed of the banana. Not visible to the eye but a part of the fruit.
That was the edition that caused me to cancel in the first place.
But, opposition to trump is loyalty to God.
So, I will resubscribe.
Re “CONSERVATIVE INTELLECTUALS”
Does anyone know the origin (identity)of that photo and its subjects? I’ve seen it for many years and often wondered.
Good! I could use the savings!
The picture is from Glenn Beck's family album.
That. Was. Awesome.
I hope you jest. Please add the sarc tag next time.
Donald J. Trump â@realDonaldTrump 3h3 hours ago
.@BrentBozell, one of the National Review lightweights, came to my office begging for money like a dog. Why doesn’t he say that?
Enjoy the flip flopping over there I guess. Lolz
All 100 of them. Well, Rich Lowry will keep his. LOL.
To really stop Trump they need to join Whoopi Goldberg and promise to leave upon his election.
The people will surely realize the value of keeping them here.
Two points.
1) If we can get Trump to name Palin as his VP, can we talk the *rest* of them into leaving, too? 2) Seriously, speaking of VP. Remember Trump is a dealmaker, and he talks about getting people into a room and knocking heads until he has a deal: one in which his side wins, true, but still, a deal.
With that in mind, will Trump name a populist or more liberal type as his VP, to get the other side on board?
That is the price of a Trump victory, and getting illegal immigration under control, and a stronger Middle-Class based economy, *may* be at the cost of some things solons hold dear.
The ultimate fault for that should be apportioned between the Dems, the Press, and the GOPe, who retreated until the Tea Party / and or Social Conservatives (who overlap but are not identical) had to put up with a poor deal in order to save the country at all...
I’m an amateur at flip-flopping, especially when compared to the master, trump.
One of my all time favorite posts. I don’t even care who you support. The moniker EPIC is appropriate.
“Earlier today, one of the Cruz supporters made a comment about Trump not holding Conservative views: 1)Lower taxes, 2)Smaller government, and 3)Abortion.
To me that really clarified why there may be the big disconnect between a lot of Trump supporters and a lot of Trump opponents.
For me, bigger issues are 1)A porous border allowing in an unlimited amount of illegal Mexicans and Central Americans, as well as likely Islamic terrorists, 2)Radical Islamic terrorism, and 3)The destruction of our culture through out-of-control political correctness.
Lower taxes and smaller government seem fairly trivial to me in comparison to the risk of losing my life or my freedoms.”
you nailed it, the rinos flat hate trump, and the purists cant understand why he is so popular with the base if we can flush political correctness from the system all the other stuff should fall in place
Dear Jack Fowler and Rich Lowry.....
