Last night, National Review published articles from twenty conservative intellectuals âAgainst Trump.â This afternoon, publisher Jack Fowler sent this letter to friends of the magazine:
Dear Friend,
Today is a big day for National Review. Our editors have made a very forceful defense of conservatism, of principle, and against the politics of attitude, in our editorial, Against Trump.
We have received angry calls, and cancel Âmy subscription demands. One in particular broke my heart. Well, letâs hope time heals.
None of this was unexpected.
But: We have also received very strong expressions of support from many NR friends. People who believe ÂÂ and they are right to believe this ÂÂ that the main reason National Review exists is to do the very thing it is doing today.
Defending conservative principle. Defending it from being marginalized, or recast as emotion and bluster instead of as an expression of reason and intelligence.
On behalf of Rich Lowry and my colleagues, thank you for standing with us. Or, better, thanks for letting us stand alongside you as we embrace the Buckley mission: To stand athwart history, yelling stop.
Best,
Jack Fowler

they are chamber of commerce, open borders types.Thats why I canned my subscription back in 06.
And therein is the problem...the MSM never wants to take responsibility for their words. I just cancelled.
Tomorrow, I’m restarting my subscription, originally cancelled in 2008.
Everyone with more than 3 working brains cells should.
How have/shall cancel? I don’t know, but probably a lot.
Medved is despicably liberal.
Oh my. Good stuff.
They endorsed Romney for Gods sake a man who WOULD NOT even stand up and fight for his success, never mind FIGHT Obammie they call themselves purist conservatives BULL$&@T!!!! I hope their frigging magazine.drops dead FAST!!!!
But then, they also damned Reagan as nothing but a grade B actor, when Buckley was in charge and RWR was in the primary season he eventually won the presidencial nomination in .
Rich Lowry? Conservative intellectuals? This is the pinnacle of arrogance. I'd bet these people have done absolutely nothing for "conservative values" except give it lip service.
It is never a good idea to piss at a tsunami. This little stunt may actually bankrupt their mag.
Pray America wakes
Well illustrated NR cover.
Establishment “intellectual” conservatives of which many are Harvard neocons, whose real opposition to Trump is based on their passion and overwhelming desire for open borders in USA.
Sounds like the big one was Rush, he seemed pretty ticked off about that. He finally is getting the Trump movement and seemed to be enjoying it.
He hinted he was not that thrilled with Levin and Beck with their Trump bash.
Best election ever!
Pray America wakes
To really stop Trump they need to join Whoopi Goldberg and promise to leave upon his election.
The people will surely realize the value of keeping them here.
tl;dr.
Feel free to deal with them on that. You'll get a cut rate deal now!
I may prefer Cruz over Trump, and I have little faith that Trump is doing more than saying whatever it takes to get elected, and that only to feed his narciccism. However, I do not think a Trump candidacy could be any worse for the GOP “brand” than were Romney or McCain.
As such, this hand wringing about Trump being the end of the world is pathetic.
Since when is that idiot, Glenn Beck an “intellectual”?
And I doubt that he went to any college. LOL
The funny thing is their misuse of Buckley’s standing “athwart history yelling, “Stop””
The current beclownment is standing athwart the will of the electorate, which is an undemocratic act and as foolhardy as standing athwart the railroad tracks telling the onrushing locomotive to back down.
