While gas prices are low nationwide, some stations are slashing the fuel's price to rock-bottom levels to the tune of less than 50 cents a gallon.
The drastic price cuts are part of a gas price war at three Houghton Lake, Mich., stations.
During the last three days, the prices dropped below a buck per gallon, falling as low as 46 cents at Sunrise Marathon. Meanwhile, the Beacon & Bridge gas station was as low as 47 cents, said employees of each station in interviews with CNBC.

Make it go national!
When gas prices were near $4/gallon in NY, the price of everything else went up. We were told this rise was due to the cost of producing, shipping etc..rising with the gas prices.
Now that gas prices are tumbling, are prices for everything else about to start tumbling too? I suspect not.

Big block Chevy going to make a comeback?
That low price has to be close to the total of Federal and State taxes on a gallon of gas in that state. -Tom
Food is going to be cheaper along with other things that need transportation.
Deflation is already here and we haven’t hit bottom yet.
Negative Oil Prices Arrive: Koch Brothers' Refinery "Pays" -$0.50 For North Dakota Crude

Prices will drop because of a supply glut.
Great news for consumers not so good news for sellers.
.50 gallon is all it should be. Standard homes should be going for about 175k in CA instead of +500k. Electricity should be very cheap in the U.S. They’ve made the dollar near worthless.
And now they wonder why very few in Middle America are buying anything.
When I was a cash strapped graduate student at University of Iowa, I owned this Buick Super, with a straight 8 engine, yielding 5 mpg in city!
Thanks to the gas wars in Iowa City, gas was 10 cents/gal!
So even I could afford to drive that big automobile.
As of last night, $2.53 for the low grade watered down crap. Reno is a vampire on the poor.
My folks raised a family, bought homes and did the American dream well on ONE income. Try that in Middle America today.
We’ve been looted and robbed.
Last month, my normal 44 pound bag of dry dog food was reduced by nine pounds and the price remained the same as the 44 pound bag.
The 44 pound bag is now 35 pounds.
It's cheaper to feed my dogs fresh chicken than top-of-the-line dry dog food. I bought 100 pounds of chicken leg quarters for $0.29 a pound on sale.
BTW, click on my name to see my doggies.
The price of gas has been going way down for a long time. Yet the prices of food and nearly everything else is sky high.
There is a big league disconnect going on.
