Donald Trump, speaking to a religious crowd at Virginia's Liberty University on Monday, turned to scripture.
"We're going to protect Christianity. I can say that. I don't have to be politically correct," he said. "Two Corinthians, 3:17, that's the whole ballgame ... is that the one you like?"

Almost through reading this thread. Easy to scan past and ignore the "...So's your old man..." and " Yo Mama!" emotional bilge from both "sides".
I waited a while and gave Trump a chance to win my support. He never closed the deal with me and the past week's antics and confirmed my decision for me.
The eliglible / not eligible and the won' sue / gonna sue flips reveal a contempt (or audacity) that is still mind boggling to me.
Then comes a report regarding his prolife conversion - that being that if the baby had been a "loser" then he's not sure what he would have thought. I'll give him an A for honesty. But, to me, it shows a pure pragmatist.
And though many (most) might think a life lived by the principles of pragmatism to be an admirable thing, I do not.
Yes, context matters. The passage in Second Corinthians from which the verse comes is about the freedom we have in Christ. Freedom from the guilt the law of the old testament placed on mankind. Grace vs. condemnation, and through Christ we triumph! The verse is not referring to man-made government at all. Does Mr. Trump even realize that? ..I feel safe in saying that Senator Cruz has read a little further down the page. Second Corinthians Chapter 4, verses one and two, perhaps: “...we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”
For the record, the students at Liberty University laughed out loud when Trump said it. It was a bungle to their ears.
And when Trump said he planned to knock the hell out of ISIS, the students pointed to “The Liberty Way” student code of conduct about the use of profanity.
The point being that Trump did bungle it and the student body reacted accordingly. It’s okay. The world won’t end because he hit a sharp note.
I am with you, papertyger.
Nothing ruins my cheerios faster than those who “strain at gnats”, in other words, modern day Pharisees. These are sanctimonious, self-righteous, and often hypocritical people, who spend so much time picking the specks out of the eyes of others.
How is that for mixing up a bunch of biblical metaphors?
Sigh, but like the poor, I guess they are always with us, and always will be.
You betcha!
straining at gnats a bit here?
Just exactly what is the âproperâ way to say it?
you sound like you need to vote for Trump no matter what...you might want to brush up and read three hundred and sixteen...you know the one that that crazy guy with the sign always held up at sporting events
I can always count on Politico to tell me the news without a slant.
It is in their eyes, like in picture perfect postcard.
But I agree. Definitely cultic behavior.Funny how nit picking is more important than the economics of the country or the future of freedom.
The hit dog yelps. That would be you. :-)
Calm down, crazy!
I did no snickering at all anywhere on this thread. The reference sounded odd to me. That was the extent of my observation.
By the way, the Liberty University student body laughed out loud when he said it. I guess they’ll all be left outside the Pearly Gates?
Lighten up, Francis. Have spot of tea or a shot of whiskey to calm your nerves.
The truth?
No, I I am sorry but he had a point. Evil why is an over reach. So too was claiming that people wanted him to be disqualified because of this. Maybe I missed it, but I did not see anyone say that at all.
Oh but you are from East Tennessee mountains. You are forgiven. Haha
his humanitarian contributions have nothing to do with his claiming he a a Christian,
............................................
Yeah, unhuh, try to sell that to those he has helped.
“What does the Bible say about liars?”
Somewhere in there it says something to the effect about don’t try to intimate that Donald Trump has Alzheimer’s. :-)
Um, what? I don’t hate Trump.
actually, I haven’t decided who will get my vote yet.
I started off supporting Cruz. Trump seems. at this point, to be a bit stronger, primarily because he may have a better understanding of economics, and because of his business experience, an ability to get deals made, therefore things done.
Cruz is a lawyer, and has a silver tongue. I would hire him over Trump to represent me in court. But, he seems to be best at taking adversarial positions, as if he were in a court of law. He doesn’t seems to be talented in getting along with his peers.
My main concerns at this point in time are:
1. the economy, the unbelievable deficits, which if you include unfunded liabilities, are in the stratosphere.
2. closing our borders and deporting illegal aliens of all categories, including muslims.
3. cleaning out the Augean Stables of Washington D.C. It has become a swamp of corruption, and we will lose our country if someone doesn’t take action.
My vote will be based on who best to get the done, and I am as conservative as they come. I want deeds, not words.
The only one capable of preserving liberty is you. And me. And her. And him. We’re gonna have to do it ourselves.
Moron?
Ha....name calling is all that the CRuzie’s have got. Not surprising.
Maybe you’re actually the one being paid to troll conservative sites. Who knows?
Yes and no.
He cares enough about governments to tell us to obey authority and that the government beareth not the sword in vain but as an implement, at times of His judgment.
He also cares enough to tell us He sets up and tears down kingdoms.
