Washington (CNN)âMedia mogul Rupert Murdoch believes Donald Trump's ability to appeal across party lines will lead to victory over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
"Cruz bets uniting white conservatives/evangelicals enough, Meanwhile Trump appealing across party lines. Surely the winning strategy," Murdoch tweeted Friday night.
Murdoch added that in the wake of Thursday night's Republican debate, the party's establishment is viewing Trump as the inevitable nominee.
"24 hours and many influential Republicans see Trump inevitable and get ready to switch. United by horror of Hillary whose campaign staggers," Murdoch tweeted.

FNC is not the GOP-e despite any real or perceived alliance.
The people Rupert is talking about are.
That's because they know he'll play ball. He's been a member of the pay to play club his entire adult life.
Murdoch switching to Trump because he wants to back a winning horse. And as President, Trump would be in a position to pay Fox back for having been nasty to him for a good part of the primary season. Murdoch is jamming his gears into reverse now to try to minimize the damage.
They also know he isn’t going to be president. The GOPe would rather push a liberal and lose than win with someone who has actual values.
Losing keeps them in power when letting conservatives won’t.
Not arguing the connection. Just saying Newscorp is not an extension of the GOP-e, and is likewise free to depart from Establishment’s BS.
No, he’s not taking money. They have no control over Trump. They are doing it because they have no other choice.
Wait, are you suggesting Trump is a conservative with actual values?
What it he’s wrong?
It’s the art of the deal!
LOL hardly.
I didn't say he was taking money. He has been on the OTHER side of that equation.
Nobody has control over Trump, least of all trump. He has miscalculated yugely, and the next couple weeks will prove me right on that score.
Murdoch is making a mistake by tilting toward one candidate. he has more to gain by maintaining a veneer of fairness and balance. Oh... that was last year.
I was actually more interested in the “influential Republicans” who are getting ready to switch. It seems Murdoch has heard things. Be interesting to watch.
As for your prediction, get back to me in a few weeks, and we’ll see.
That's what I've been wondering about. Will the GOPe unite behind Trump? It appears so. My next question is will Trump choose Rubio as VP to solidify that support?
Whoa, thanks ... because the article was about Trump, and I thought for a moment there that the earth had broken free of its orbit and was plummeting uncontrolled through uncharted space :o)
Murdoch simply made a pragmatic statement. I don’t read any more into it than that. He’s correct.
By the same token, Murdock has the same right to make a stupis statement on social media as I do. No, wait.
When Trump started I followed him because he was funny and said some things, I felt, Needed to be said. But I worried that he was a lightweight and would become just another Obama—POTUS in training. Then came the last debate. Cruz knocked his “New York Values” and Trump answered—his tone was different—he was serious-—and I knew that the Republic would be safe in his hands. I have no problem with him as President. Is Trump conservative—no, not really. He is a Capitalist with Conservative leanings. Murdoch, another capitalist reads him right.
