Charles Krauthammer told viewers Friday on "Special Report with Bret Baier" that Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz "was speechless, gobsmacked... dumbstruck" at the end of Thursday's Fox Business Network GOP primary debate.
The Texas senator criticized fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for embodying what he called "New York values."
Krauthammer, a syndicated columnist and Fox News contributor, said that while Cruz was "dazzling" on the birther issue, he got "thoroughly crushed on the New York thing."
Krauthammer seemed surprised by the way Cruz handled Trump's attacks, calling the exchange "uncharacteristic of Cruz because he is always prepared."
"Trump had played the 9/11 card the day before," Krauthammer said, "[Cruz] should have known it was coming."
"And if you saw the split screen at the end of hat exchange, Cruz was speechless," Krauthammer said.

But if Mr. Trump ends up running as the standard bearer for the Republican party (which seems very likely at this point) he WILL be your candidate, unless you decide you’re no longer a member of the Republican party.

Amen Bender. Lil and I were talking about that last night. These NY and DC media elites are so full of themselves they don’t realize that Cruz scored big points slamming the whole NY and DC elistism. They despise us but can’t understand that we despise them more.

Wishful thinking by Krauthammer there. Cruz decided it did not benefit him to further engage at that point.
Anyone who thinks this could hurt Cruz in a GOP primary isn’t too bright. Sourkrauthammer included.
As for the GE, what’s NY gonna do, vote democrat by a huge margin, LIKE IT ALWAYS does?
Conservatives in NY totally agree with Cruz, he just won a straw poll in NYC.
