Rudy Giuliani on Friday said Ted Cruz should apologize to New York City for attacking its "values" in the presidential race.
"After all we have been through as a city and as one undivided nation, to have a United States senator running for President paint New York as a city consumed with greed, sin and media obsession is shocking," Giuiani, who has not made an endorsement in the 2016 race, wrote in the New York Daily News.
"Sen. Ted Cruz should apologize to the people of New York for his remarks and to the people of the United States for his crass attempt to divide us."
Giuliani, a former mayor of New York City who made an unsuccessful run for the White House in 2008, joins a growing list of figures pushing back against the Texas senator.
Cruz this week said Republican voters should reject Donald Trump and the "New York values" he embodies, such as support for abortion rights and same-sex marriage.
Even Hillary Clinton backed Trump on Friday, tweeting that "New Yorkers value hard work, diversity, tolerance, resilience, and building better lives for our families."
A spokeswoman for the senator defended the statement on Friday, saying the country must not become like liberal Manhattan.
Trump rebuked Cruz for the attack during the GOP debate on Thursday while recalling how his home city responded to the 9/11 attacks.
"When the World Trade Center came down, I saw something that no place on Earth could have handled more beautifully, more humanely than New York," Trump said.
Giuliani, who was mayor at the time of the attacks, said New York should be proud of Trump, who delivered a "strong, truthful and eloquent defense of our great city and nation."
LOL! Hey, that guy in the dress is a liberal, but the one with his face in the fake boobs is the conservative savior of the country!
Can’t make this stuff up.
Firefighter and Cops running into the World Trade Center to try and save lives when the Twin Towers went down.
So many of these brave New Yorkers died or were out of commission, that thousands of firefighters from all over America came to New York to help them.
That to me is New York values.
Most Americans can trace their families coming here to the USA to Ellis Island and Lady Liberty who stands nearby.
That is New York Values.
Ted Cruz took lot of money from Hedge Funders like Mercer.
Lots of loans from Goldman Sachs, maybe he is ashamed of New York Values, but he ain’t ashamed of taking New York Cash.
Hey, Ted I hear you have another loan of New York Cash you with the great perfect memory forgot to report to the FEC?
I totally agree. For his incredible debate intelligence, this was such a shallow statement to make. He could of chose so many things to hit back against Trump.
He should apologize it was a cheap statement.
No, naps, the people who think Cruz stepped in it are the liberal media, liberal New Yorkers, and the people on FR who have slipped leftward in order to support a liberal.
How come obama didn’t have to apologize calling folks in PA “Bitter clingers to their guns and Bibles?”
I seem to remember a very popular man from NY... leading the GOP Primary polls in 2008... what happened to him?
Trump in 1999: 'I am Very Pro-Choice' - NBC NewsTrump used to know that his pro-partial-birth-abortion and pro-homosexuals in the military positions were very NY/Manhattan."Hey, I've lived in New York city and Manhattan all my life so, you know, my views are a little different than if I lived in Iowa, perhaps."
--Trump
Did he forget? Or is he lying again?
I’m pretty sure I saw her say that she’s an old lady.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that’s what I saw.
The liberal and Gope establishment sure are jumping up to attack Cruz for being politically incorrect and criticizing the socially liberal values of New York. Its funny that so many Trump supporters who wanted Trump to tear up all of the politically correct rules are now excited to watch him turn into the enforcer of political correctness.
This was especially hypocritical of Trump when he gave a televised interview to Tim Russert where he said that the reason he was pro choice (even against a ban on partial birth abortion) and pro gay rights was that he grew up in New York City. He even distinguished New York values from Iowa values by saying that maybe he would have had different views if he had grown up in Iowa.
So, Trump knows what New York values are, he just would rather stand with his socially liberal friends and attack a social conservative for daring to criticize the social liberalism of New York. Here is the video link which everyone needs to watch. http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/video/trump-in-1999-i-am-very-pro-choice-480297539914
All that graph does is show why America is in the shape it’s in.
It’s the same thing with California. They leave the sinking ship but take their values with them. Destroy one state move to the next.
Trump is an imperfect ugly dirty weapon but he in heading towards the target, its ungainly but we are in dire straights. It is like being overrun by the enemy and in desperation calling a napalm strike on your own position "danger close".
That's nice.
But Trump used to believe that legal partial birth abortion and homosexuals in the military were NYC/Manhattan values.
Trump in 1999: 'I am Very Pro-Choice' - NBC NewsDid Trump forget this? Or did he conveniently forget because Cruz caught up to him in Iowa?"Hey, I've lived in New York city and Manhattan all my life so, you know, my views are a little different than if I lived in Iowa, perhaps."

Trump now going after Cruz for hypocrisy, fundraising with a married gay couple in Manhattan this very week.
Twitter link to story in New York Times.
First of all, I like both Cruz and Trump about the same. One does not stand above the other to me.
That said, the political divide between the Northeast and the South, flyover country and the “Left coast” has been around for a long time and it has been used to compartmentalize politicians and insult them.
What Cruz did was use the “Northeast politician” attack against Trump except that he localized it to NYC.
New Yorkers love the reputation they have as being cold and mean and in-your-face and following self interest. They brag about. The cover of the New York Post proved that Cruz was right (having the Statue of Liberty flipping the bird).
And Trump’s persona and his style of attack is that of the typical New Yorker, like it or not.
Cruz was only pointing this out and categorizing Trump as a Northeast/NYC type of politician.
Time (and the state-run and New York-run media attacks) will tell whether it was a successful political tactic.
Media Reports A Second Wall Street Banking Loan “Inadvertently Omitted” By Candidate Ted Cruz
Excerpts...
The FEC requires candidates to disclose bank loans taken out to finance their bids for office simply because such loans can be used to subvert campaign finance laws.
If a candidate takes out a loan, in any amount, any entity can repay the loan on the candidate’s behalf and thats a way to subvert rules on the amount of contributions.
...third parties, who are part of the influence equation, could pay back the loan on the candidates behalf, avoid FEC/public scrutiny and hold influence over what the elected political official does in office.
-Was this second scenario a method for Wall Street, via Goldman Sachs, to put the well-educated husband of one of their employees into office, simply to insure that as a U.S. Senator he was friendly to their interests?
-Would Wall Street industrial bankers, who finance global corporations, be able to insure this type of candidate would, as an example, advocate for something like Trans-Pacific Trade?
-Would Wall Street institutional bankers, who benefit from low interest loans via U.S. Treasury, be able to influence such a candidate to avoid auditing the federal reserve?
-Would Wall Street institutional banking agents who benefit from low interest federal borrowing, and higher interest investment loaning, be able to influence policy regarding North American economic development?
-Would, as an example, a billionaire hedge-fund manager (Robert Mercer), who is in a legal fight with the IRS to the tune of $10 BILLION taxes owed, be willing to invest several million, perhaps tens of millions, into a presidential campaign in an effort to win the White House and influence a U.S. Tax Policy that would tilt the IRS scales in his favor and consequently save him billions?
Here in Las Vegas there are over 100,000 ex New Yorkers.
If you look at the populations of places like Jersey, Ohio,Pennsylvania, CT, FL. TX. CA. IL. there are a lot of primaries Cruz is going to lose.
My wife gave several times to the Cruz campaign but that remark has turned off her checkbook.
She doesn’t like Dissing where she grew up. And boy is she a conservative.
'cause cops and firefighters in the rest of the country don't do that kind of stuff.
...that thousands of firefighters from all over America came to New York to help them.
Oh, wait, I guess they do. So that proves dick.
Chuck Shumer, de Blasio, Cumo (both), Hillary, Tamney Hall, the Sullivan law, "I don't want to get involved", those are New York (city) values.
