White House chief of staff Denis McDonough pushed back against the notion his president is played out in the wake of his last State of the Union address, promising âaudacious executive actionâ in Barack Obamaâs final year in office. During a breakfast with reporters in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, McDonough responded to the observation that the presidentâs final speech before Congress lacked the usual pledge to âgo it aloneâ if lawmakers failed to act.
Coupled with the feeble executive actions on gun control announced earlier this month, had President Obama rethought the utility of acting unilaterally on issues important to the White House?
âWeâll do audacious executive action over the course of the rest of the year, Iâm confident of that,â said McDonough, explaining that President Obamaâs decision not to outline specific executive actions was more about a commitment to process than a lack of willpower.
âProcess is your friend, but process also dictates what you can do,â McDonough said. âAnd we do want to make sure that the executive actions we undertake are not left hanging out there, subject to Congress undoing them.â
In addition to gun control, the White House has expressed interest in further unilateral actions on immigration reform, and in working around Congress to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay.
But McDonough said the White House is considering executive action on any and all issues, and that the main question President Obama plans to ask himself is âWhy not?â âAnd so thatâs the spirit through which weâll approach this last year,â McDonough said.
There are no ‘irreversible’ executive actions that obama can take before he leaves office. President Trump will be able to cancel them all on his first day in office.
FDR: the faithless, oath-breaking, scumbag who threw governance by constitutional means to the curb.
Ask the British if their actions toward the Colonies was irreversible....

Creepy & kooky, mysterious & spooky, & altogether ooky.....

So is executing them............................
As this White House becomes less and less relevant, they have to jump up and down while shouting, Look at me! Look at me! - My comment is, meh.
That may well be but I submit that as CinC he could do this anyway.

There is nothing which government or representatives of the people can do that can not be un done. Hitler and Mussolini (sp?) thought they had done the irreversible but found out otherwise.
What, we can't capture them again, or better yet, kill them?

Dear Chairman Maobama,
Americans won’t stand for “irreversible”...
If 0Obama does leave the WH, can we get a Freep ban on the word, ‘notion’.
I really don’t have to explain why.
Changing the rules of engagement is not and hunting them down will still be possible.
What is he also gives Gitmo back to Cuba?
