After months of playing nice, Cruz hits Trump. Then hits him again. And again.

After months of responding to Donald Trump's attacks by deflecting them, joking about them or just plain ignoring them, Ted Cruz struck back late Tuesday with a stream of pointed criticism directed at the GOP front-runner.

At events in New Hampshire and in radio interviews, Cruz took direct aim at Trump on several fronts: tying the billionaire to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, questioning his ability to win a general election, casting doubt on his ability to serve as commander in chief and disputing his "New York values."

The swiftness and ferocity of the attacks is striking for Cruz, who said as recently as Monday that he didn't want to go to war with Trump. The two men are battling for the top spot in polls in Iowa, which host the first-in-the-nation caucuses Feb. 1. Cruz said Tuesday that Trump was clearly feeling the pressure.

Cruz took direct aim at Trump's competence. "Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe?" Cruz asked on "The Hugh Hewitt Show." In a Republican debate last month, Trump was asked about the nuclear triad and had trouble with the explanation.

And he jabbed Trump on the billionaire's cosmopolitan lifestyle. “I think he may shift in his new rallies to playing New York, New York, because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values,” Cruz told Carr.

I’m a TRUMP gal but I could vote for CRUZ as necessary. I really hope these two do not bloody each other up too bad.

what`s not to like?

He's a globalist. If he were an 'America first' person and loved his country he would not have voted TPA/Corker and championed 500% increase in H-1B visas.

‘The Establishment hates Cruz more than Trump.’

The GOPe via Nikki Haley settled that question for you last night. She used the GOPe “rebuttle” to the SOTU to attack not Cruz but Trump. She told you straight up who they fear.

Ditto your tagline:

“Cruz v. Trump cagefight: What the MSM / RINOs / GOPe / Uniparty want. Don’t give it to them.”

Did he ever support the murder of God`s unborn children?

Did he ever support the removal of God/Christ from the classroom/public square?

Did he ever support the idea of 2 grown man rubbing their junk together, or being allowed to teach our children?

You’re just wrong, flat wrong about Reagan. I made several posts about how Reagan governed: solidifying Social Security, tariffs and such. Reagan was ‘America first’ while Cruz is a globalist.

Actually, Reagan did the minimum possible - setting up trade restrictions that expired automatically. That is why none of them is still in place today. Milton Friedman was Reagan's guru. Even though Reagan put in place policies to temporarily protect certain politically-important constituencies, they were temporary in nature. And Friedman was right - Japan protected just about every industry in the country. But the main sectors in which it has been competitive are motor vehicles and certain machine tools. And this was Japan, a country with higher average IQ than the US. Brazil, with a lower average IQ than the US, but more resources per capita, also has wall-to-wall protection for domestic industry to an even greater extent than Japan. It has 1/4 the US's GDP per capita. Bottom line is that protectionism is not some magical cure for the economy.

Cruz was behind Hilary Clinton by a massive 24% a few months back when most voters didn't know him and everyone knew Hilary Clinton.
After the very high ratings debates, a lot of America's and have come to know and like him. The more the voting public have gotten to know Ted Cruz, the higher his polling numbers have gone. With only 77% of GOP voters being familiar with Cruz, it's pure upside.

While not the smartest thing to do, it is far less of a problem than the smack at new York will be.

How many thing in D.C. are so dear to you or me that we wouldn’t take our chances?

The Constitution, for one.

And I have yet to EVER hear Trump mention or even refer to it, in any capacity. That’s a big RED FLAG, for me...aside from all the other red flags waving around Trump, that is.

Head to head when not really a choice at this time are fairly meaningless. Cruz is only known by 77% of Republicans so he is not known at all (really) with the public at large. His head to head with Clinton is totally meaningless.

In other words, polls mean exactly what you mean they say, no more and no less?

Trump was out speaking about it WAY before Cruz ever did or said anything...

Trump's "speaking out" usually amounts to some hack news reader trying to set him for questions that cause conflict. But this issue concerning Cruz was not even in the public discussion until very recently.

And the reality is, this question is not definitively settled. Trump or anyone else can only give an opinion, and he made no issue of it until the war of words was set off by Cruz recently.

If he were an 'America first' person and loved his country he would not have voted TPA/Corker and championed 500% increase in H-1B visas.

So I assume you believe that Democrats are the kind of "America First" person you can support - because they ALL opposed TPA.

Swerving a bit off topic,,,, when obama was a candidate, did he know what a nuclear triad is? Was he ever asked that question?

Cruz wins Iowa. Trump wins New Hampshire. Close to a tie in South Carolina. Cruz nearly sweeps the Southern primaries Trump wins more in the North East. Cruz wins more in the West and Midwest. I think we go to the Convention with a narrow lead by Cruz.

Pretty close to right - Lower Midwest, and the Dakotas will be for Cruz... tossup in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana... Though Indiana is likely Cruz. Lower Michigan and eastward is probably more Trumpish.

the South, the Rocky Mountain West, and the Desert Southwest are Cruz country. Hard telling on the left coast.

To those with a brain, it's obvious Donald Trump is using Alinsky-style (Democrat) tactics, attempting to cast doubt on campaign rival Ted Cruz's presidential campaign by calling into question his Canadian birth.

Actually, Obama/Cruz supporters have been using Alinsky-style (political) tactics for 7+ years to end the natural born citizen debate. Both groups using the derogatory 'birther' term like they own it.

In any case, to me it looks like Trump understands how to deal with Alinsky tactics better than all of the other candidates combined.

“Trump was asked about the nuclear triad”

The terms obsolete. None of these delivery mechanisms are even the most likely...

It’s much more likely to be a truck or a small plane, a ship or a drone.
