WASHINGTON (AP) -- Iran was holding 10 U.S. Navy sailors and their two small Navy boats after the boats had mechanical problems and drifted into Iranian waters, but American officials have received assurances from Tehran that they will be returned safely and promptly.
Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told The Associated Press that the riverine boats were moving between Kuwait and Bahrain when the U.S. lost contact with them.

Riverine boats are small...but generally armed to the teeth, and fast.
If there were two and one started drifting, why didn’t the other one tow it to safety?
Or, if things started getting dicey, why didn’t the guys on the one get on the other and high tail it?
Failing all of that, why didn’t they call for help and then light up the approaching Iranian craft?

The funny thing is half of the news analysts are wetting their pants when they have no idea what caused the boats to go into the area, no idea how they were “captured”, how they are being held, or anything else about the incident.
