The commander of the Navy's Carrier Strike Group 15 based in San Diego was relieved of his duties Friday, the Navy said in a release on Saturday.
Rear Adm. Rick Williams was removed from his position due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command, the release said.
The Navy's Third Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson relieved Williams based on the results of an investigation into allegations of misuse of government computer equipment.
Williams took command of Carrier Strike Group 15 in July 2015. He has been administratively reassigned, the release said, to the staff of Commander, U.S. Third Fleet.
Until a permanent relief is identified, Williams will be replaced by Capt. Chris Barnes who will serve as the interim commander.
The primary mission of the San Diego-based Strike Group is to train Pacific Fleet Carrier Strike Groups, Amphibious Ready Groups, and independently deploying surface ships prior to deployment.

Perhaps he used one of Obama’s government computers to peruse Free Republic?
The other side of the story.
Nice reporting (sarcasm). What exactly does “misuse of government computer equipment” mean??? Last time I checked you’d have to be a complete idiot to misuse a military computer. If he’s guilty then the military has a serious judgment problem.
They are using the “loss of confidence” excuse too much.
If loss of confidence was enough to get you fired, Obama would be back boring students to death.
Come up with a real reason or go play hopscotch.
Bammy wants to put a LGTG***** (whatever) in command as long as it’s some sort of demoralizing pervert.
” .... relieved Williams based on the results of an investigation into allegations of misuse of government computer equipment.”
Most government employees I know misuse government computer equipment every day and nothing ever happens to them. I guess it’s selective enforcement when it comes to the military.
It means you used it to do some real, meaningful work.
I speak from experience.
The Navy’s Third Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Nora Tyson relieved Williams based on the results of an investigation into allegations of misuse of government computer equipment.
Did he set up a private server and use it to conduct official business including handling of classified emails?
Ahh, right. Navy regs. I forgot.
Almost certainly, his “misuse of a computer” had to do with sending an email which questioned the judgement of this administration and/or its fearless “leader.”
Obama strikes again, this guy must have demonstrated too much love of country.
Leni
Seems he revealed the Obama bought a villa in Dubai.
No joke.
There has to be a lot more to this.
If you go to the story, look to the right and notice that 2 Submarine CO’s were also ‘fired’..
Is this a purge or ????
Either way, with the unusual amount of ‘firings’ of CO’s and Flag Officers, something must be terribly amiss in the selection committee process.
I can see one or two maybe slipping through but not one every month or so.
Usually these little ‘shortcomings’ are discovered when they are JO’s....
He should have set up a home brew private server for all his stuff, classified or unclassified!
