Nothing else....Seemed pretty health...Don't know where the epicenter is.
Rowland Heights. Cool area. Right there between the Pomona and Orange freeways. Used to be dirt roads and oil fields. Even sleepy Brea has major development now.
Earthquakes are funny. In this case it’s only a big deal if it turns out to be a foreshock.
Agree.
Yes. The October 17 Loma Prieta earthquake at 5:04 pm was a brutal 6.9. I remember it well since 5pm mass just started in Berkeley and the priest when under the altar, all of us went under the pews, waited, and then ran toward the sturdy walls.
Then two years late the October 20 Oakland firestorm ripped three thousand homes. I went to Ocean beach and watched the smoke just pile up into the air for hours. Brutal.
I’ll never forget going to coffee one morning the following week and a young wealthy couple were at the next table with an architect, blue prints on the table and discussing their new multi-millon dollar home. To them it was like replacing four tires.
In 89 I was working in Santa Clara (FMC Central Technology Center) just next to San Jose and was walking to the train through the back parking lot. There were waves a foot high in the parking lot. Cars were bouncing everywhere. I thought I was having a stroke or something, couldn’t figure out what was going on for the first 30 seconds. It was crazy.
I was driving down Sir Francis Drake Blvd In San Anselmo and my VW convertible was having its shocks tested by the rocking
I lived in an apartment building atop a jail near the corte madera an tiburon border...and had a rather bizarre wide view of the city burning
Waiting the fires and listening to AM radio in the Ragtop..as there wasn’t any electricity in my neighborhood that night
ya . a guy who worked for Santa Clara County actually predicted that quake..
This was a small quake on a smaller fault near the coast. The San Andreas Fault is 60 miles inland near San Bernardino. That’s where any big one will come from. The smaller faults can cause quakes up to 7, but the San Andreas can cause 8 or larger quakes. Use to live in L.A., Riverside, San Bernardino and San Jose (during the 1989 Loma Prieta quake). Now live in Sacramento.
Nothing noticed in Mission Viejo.
I think the potential for real big issues with the San Andreas fault is on the northern end of it. Central CA and North of SF. Further north in Oregon/WA is subduction zone land. Cascadia subduction zone.. Capable of big league tsunamis...Bad juju.
“Iâm maybe 10-15 miles from Rowland Heights.
I didnât feel anything.”
Same here and I am about the same distance South of there. Felt nothing.
Sir Francis Drake Blvd: a lovely area and very swank. Yes, that is a good place to view the Oakland fires in 1991.
Speaking of Marin County, I have a wealthy friend who went place his daughter into first grade at the local Catholic school, St. Rita’s in Fairfax, and the parents were auctioning the seats, 5k, 10K, 12K, for first grade, because the public schools are so bad.
Power to you.
St Rita hit hard times. Its leased the school...to a private firm
this just began this fall!
Marin can ve very very strange....Given the 90 percent turnout for Obama...in both 2008 and 2012, it seems a bit surreal at times
I had never heard of the subduction zone until a few weeks ago, a couple I know had become aware of it and by the sound of things it could be an earth CHANGER
I’m surprised an earthquake this small is getting attention... Are people more concerned than normal about earthquakes in that area?
If you think USGS is good, you should check this out.
EARTHQUAKE 3D - http://www.wolton.net/quake.html
Go to link, download the FREE PROGRAM. Takes about 2 seconds. Then simply CLICK on the icon to run it.
A fully rotatable, zoomable, spinable map of Earthquakes all over the planet in a 3D DISPLAY.
Zip around the globe and zoom in or out. See patterns of Earthquake activity like you can’t in any other website or program.
Use CONTROLS to limit EQ Magnitude or time since occurrence.
Change rendering of the global surface. Make it so you can see EQ activity on both sides of the planet at the same time.
This program is AWESOME. I bring it up on my computer and in 2 seconds I can see all EQ activity around the entire planet.
maybe there was a nucular test?
Nothing in Bakersfield.
What exactly did it sound and feel like. How long did it go on?
This big significance to those in quake prone zones are if the the small one is simply a foreshock to a much larger one. After about 24 hours, I think the chances of that start going way down.
